It's always been done that way. It gets enough publicity that people should know this by now. How many times does it need to be stated that Live Launches are clunky, messy (the only one AU ever did was in 2003 and it was a mess) and the reason most BB's around the world don't do it is because it gets the ball rolling on the 24-hour turnaround for Daily Shows. It also improves the efficiency of the episode by cutting out all the back-and-forth of HMs making their way to the house from stage, as well as provides enough footage post Launch for some content of the house.Over on the socials a lot of casual viewers were pissed off that the launch night was not live. I know BBAU is not known for live launch shows but a live 2025 launch would have tied in really well with Ten's heavy promotion of their return to a live format.
Aussie shows like the rest of the world used to be an hour long but then networks began deliberately overrunning even pre-recorded shows by around 10 minutes to try and prevent viewers turning over at the end. All the networks began playing that game so they'd overrun by another 10 minutes, then another 10 minutes where it got to the point viewers wouldn't put up with that bullshit so shows were just scheduled for 90 minutes anyway, whilst shorter "hour long" became 70 minutes as standard.Would anyone besides Kingston like to expand upon that?
I just Googled it. While some shows have longer episodes, it's not a universal rule for all Australian reality TV. Other shows, like the news magazine program 60 Minutes, are exactly 60 minutes long and have been airing on Australian television for decades.
