BBUK5 was fantastic television and Nadia was the best winner. It'll never happen, but another season like that would draw insane ratings - and insane criticism at the same time.Hah, I remembered it being handled quite sensitively on BBUK, but I adored BB5 and Nadia, so I'm probably looking at it through rose-coloured glasses.
My memory is that Davina addressed it on launch night (but it wasn't made part of Nadia's "backstory" or intro VT), and then it was more or less left alone. I certainly don't think there was pressure on her to reveal it to the other Housemates – although I do remember Davina revealing it in the eviction interviews every week, which is pretty tacky looking back on it.
I doubt the press or "Dave down the pub" handled it nearly as well, but I don't remember any of that, I was just glued to the show.
I guess it says... something that she came back for Ultimate BB, too.
I remember members of the public standing on the public footpath behind the house and fence to Elstree Studios yelling "Nadia's a man!" into the garden and housemates hearing it. Jason and Victor were regularly commenting on Nadia being a man. The press had a field day with her story. I remember people saying "they've put a transsexual in the house" - for the time, the producers knew what they were doing.
