That One Guy
On a personal level, I live with many different people because of my uni course. If one of them decided to leave, it is a bit sad but I wouldn't be outright crying about it. I suppose you could make the arguement that I don't have absolutely constant contact and a bit more privacy than the BB housemates, but my point still stands. You'll still see them..

I just don't understand why it seems to be an exponential growth in distress when someone leaves across the seasons. In earlier seasons, as someone mentioned, it was much more light hearted cheering and 'see you on the outside!' As the series as progressed, each season the housemates seem to get more and more distressed when someone leaves. They all know its going to happen, and they all know that in a few weeks they're going to see them again. Why is it so distressing for this year's housemates when, in earlier seasons, it wasn't an issue at all?

It's a completely different situation. If someone you live with leaves, you can still choose to see them even the next day if you want to, and if not, you can go see other friends and/or distance yourself from particular people. In the BB house they don't have that freedom.

I found it over the top and agree with the OP, I've unfortunately been to a handful of funerals myself and to hear the whining and blubbering last night was horrendous and laughable. Caleb got evicted, he didn't die, his house didn't burn down, his kids weren't taken away by the social, he got evicted who they will see when they do.
I'm beginning to believe quite a few of this years housemates aren't emotionally equipped for this game, they thought they might have been but boy oh boy are they wrong. If i remember didn't Sharon cry on the first or second night JUST realizing she was going to be away from her kids?

Yup, says it all. And you said it well.I'm laughing all over again remembering the caterwauling, the blubbering, the eye dabbing, it was ridiculous. Especially when compared to Tahlia's calm dignity in the face of an actual loss.

I can't believe how thoughtless some of you are! Imagine that being your only world for one month! You go in the house and then we'll see how you react when all you've known has been taken away from you! You're all ready to criticise from the outside but you haven't BEEN IN THERE!
Tully how did you get a hold of a computer?
murf
I noticed Tully was standing near the door so she could of course be the last one to hug Caleb, but man I was wishing that someone would just push her out as well. She was so close! Just 1 more metre and she'd have been gone!
She did the same thing with Jaz! I guess she needs to be in that last camera shot so everyone knows how she is more upset and cares more than anyone else.

The pen is mightier than the sword.
The 2006 season also had housemates wailing and crying when someone was evicted towards the final 3 weeks (Camilla & David were the worst offenders).
Camilla cried so much she even referenced herself; she said, it was "like there was a death in the house" on how much she and Dave cried over Claire and Krystal's eviction.
People, seriously, watch the 2006 season. They were the worst criers, like something out of a melodrama.
Look at how David & Camilla are crying here (LOL):

Just as she alwways loves people more than they love her lol!
this. The tears are understandable but the wailing and bawling was just ridiculous.
I hate goodbyes. HATE them. And I get quite emotional when saying good bye to close friends or family. I cry. Alot.
I don't, however, break out into loud gallumphing sobs (with no apparent tears), throw myself on the person leaving, beat my chest and scream "Why God Why??!!"
But that's just me.

Maybe they just loved Calebbut still he is not dead. I don't quite understand that
I know it's bound to feel more intense when you're actually in the house, but I kept thinking he's getting evicted not executed. Perspective people.
