Episode Day 5 (12/09/14) Daily Show
- Thread starter TALENTstanner
- Start date
Not watching live tonight just saw that Travis says that he likes girl with no makeup - apparently girls don't in fact like you to say that because they like doing makeup and it makes them feel good. What do the girls here think?
Actually thinking about it now I think I might have read that here on the off-season… hmm lol
It's not just that.
It's that men say they want a natural girl, but they only mean it in the sense that it LOOKS natural.
Travis wants a girl with the "natural" look (super done up, but with no bold colours so it doesn't SEEM done up) but he doesn't want to have to know the girl actually uses makes up to look that good.
He wants to pretend the girl wakes up flawless and that she never has bags under her eyes or a breakout or gets a bit rashy - you know, like 99% of people do.
Dudes who are so invested in appearances that they have an ideal type that they can just spell out like that (and further, that they're willing to rate people they actually know irl on a 1-10 scale) are never the kind of dudes who want a natural girl tbh.
Well said, @Kendall. Spot on!It's not just that.

I'm telling you I think it's going to be all season based on what Sonia said a few times pre launch. Either that or they're going to give out a wack in the first few weeks and try to entice the HMs to give some back.Have not seen it yet, have you got a link to the commercial?
And PS. CAN THEY STOP USING PRIZE MONEY IN THE HOUSE. Just NO. N.O.

amazing...i like you. all men internalise misogyny like this. whether it's obvious and extreme or shown in violence or whether it surfaces in little everyday micro-aggressions like what travis said. and also what dion said in his opening about how women don't respect themselves. who is he to decide what constitutes a woman respecting herself? what he really means to say is that a woman that does something he doesn't like, because of how he's been conditioned, means she doesn't respect herself. stupid. It's not just that.

I missed tonights show. Oh well ... not bothered.

You're right.amazing...i like you. all men internalise misogyny like this. whether it's obvious and extreme or shown in violence or whether it surfaces in little everyday micro-aggressions like what travis said. and also what dion said in his opening about how women don't respect themselves. who is he to decide what constitutes a woman respecting herself? what he really means to say is that a woman that does something he doesn't like, because of how he's been conditioned, means she doesn't respect herself. stupid.
When we were all covering our ankles and shoulders and doing what society expected of us, we were getting dragged away to insane asylums for being hysterical as soon as we expressed some kind of emotions.
So attempting to placate men by following their rules of respectability doesn't work, but neither does doing our own thing the way a lot of women are trying to do now. \:
Fact of the matter is, it doesn't matter how much respect a woman has for herself (how can another person really know? why do we not tell men they don't deserve respect if they don't respect themselves?), men will always try to control her and tell her she's wrong.
Honestly, it doesn't matter what Dion does from here on out, there's no redeeming himself after that statement.
I'm a bitter bitch and I'm never getting over it. x:

Tonight's episode was alright. The rapping was painful though.
exactly. couldn't have said it better myself. women will always, always lose no matter what they do as long as the patriarchy and masculinity exist to oppress them. as long as rape culture exists. the truth is misogyny (aka hatred of women) is so insidiously ingrained in men's minds and in our society that people have become so unaware of it because of how subtle it is in our everyday life and in comments like that. even in extreme aggressions like rape...people still defend rape with comments about the victims attire or if she was intoxicated or "stupid" as if a woman deserved to be raped or should do things to "not get raped" instead of putting blame on the rapist, thinking about why rape actually happens. why men rape. why men get away with rape. it's just going to get worse and worse. and for example, the word feminism is frowned at and has a negative connotation to it...do people think about why. i just want people to truly really think. especially women. we need to stick together and stay aware and educated about this. but more and more people are becoming aware. but i'll stop now because i feel uncomfortable and i'll just start getting worked up over thisYou're right.
