I miss the old days when the HMs all felt they were going through a shared experience and would be friends when they left ... well, at least friends for a little while. Now most of them are just in it for themselves and don't care about the other HMs.

Yep, what started as a vague attempt at a social experiment turned very quickly into a group of wannabes fighting for their 15 minutes before obscurity.
