Housemate Conor discussion

He’s using gay as a derogatory slur.

He's not. His brain might have picked up the phrase as a homophobic slur at one point (e.g. his brain didn’t come up with this phrase on his own) but that doesn’t mean that he’s using it a homophobic slur.

His brain throws out words that don’t have any meaning to Conor in the moment his brain is throwing these words out. Even for his brain, these words don’t have a specific meaning in these situations, e.g. not even his brain wants to insult somebody in this moment.

And imho that’s the reason why I think it was right for production not to beep it. We want Big Brother to be fly-on-the-wall observation and to show us how the housemates really are.

Removing it from the broadcast insinuates that Conor has done something wrong and that Conor’s personality can’t be shown in public. Both of these things are wrong and basically shift the burden on the person who can’t do anything about it.

ed that Connor was using the word "gay" in a derogatory way in the diary room?
nah that’s bullshit. He’s using gay as a derogatory slur. It shouldn’t have been screened.

And what’s your issue with white gay men? If you’d called out a black gay man you’d probably be banned.
THANK YOU!!!

In this day and age, I am FLABBERGASTED that Connor's homophobic slurs were kept in. People have been CANCELLED for FAR less!!!

He’s right. In New Zealand there was an entire ad campaign based on telling youth not to call things “gay” as a derogatory term.

He's not. At best, he's ignorant. Otherwise he's just as ignorant and stupid as you. Since Conor is not "calling things gay as a derogatory term", that campaign is not directed at him.

I've explained it to you before, so to be on the save side: Do you understand that Conor does not have control over his Tourette tics or is that part already too much for you to understand? Feel free to contact Frances Arns or Rainbow Youth and ask them if their campaign was targeted at people who don't have control over their Tourette tics. They will tell you the same thing as I do. Maybe they'll use nicer words, but they will also tell you not to be an ignorant and stupid prick on the internet.

Thank you. It\s wrong

You obviously don't know how Tourette works. Christmas is coming up, so lets give you the gift of knowledge, so you can stop displaying your ignorance all over the internet. But before we do that, let's see if I gonna waste my time: Do you want me to explain how Tourette's works so you can stop embarrassing yourself or are you indeed just a stupid moron that we all should just ignore?

FFS. Way to miss the point.

My problem isn’t with Connor saying it. My problem is with it being put into the edit and shown on tv.

Presumably you also have Tourette’s as you can’t seem to help yourself from using insulting terms either.

You’re also presumably a racist since you brought his skin colour into the discussion for no reason. And ageist, since you called out gen x people, and homophobic because you called out gay people.

I have that person blocked - the only person I've blocked on here, so I know what you mean. They were, shall I say, not an agreeable person.

I gave you a well-meaning answer in regards to 10 broadcasting and normalizing Conor's disability. And it doesn't matter if you claim that you have a problem with Conor saying it or not. I was calling you and Tulin out for ignorance towards Tourette's and your stupidity for taking things out of context.

And your ignorance is showing, because you make posts claiming Conor is using words as slurs, you defend people claiming that Conor is using words in a derogatory way and you like posts where people complained about having their posts deleted for complaining about Conor using slurs, not 10 broadcasting it.

None of these claims are true. You should be called out for making these claims. You continue to say "Conor used slurs and 10 shouldn't show it", I will continue to call them out.

It doesn't matter how you frame it. We can't have a meaningful discussion about everything else as long as you misunderstand and misrepresent Conor's disability. Not understanding that Conor didn't use a slur is ignorance. Refusing to get educated and repeating ignorant claims is stupidity.

You’re also presumably a racist since you brought his skin colour into the discussion for no reason. And ageist, since you called out gen x people.

You're showing that you have a bit of an issue with either reading or understanding. Please show me where I've talked about anyone's skin color or about gen x.

Presumably you also have Tourette’s as you can’t seem to help yourself from using insulting terms either.
Nope. No Tourette here and it shows your ignorance towards Tourette's, which is the main issue here. You still seem to believe that Tourette's means that you can't hold back your thoughts. But unlike Conor and everyone else with Tourette's, I say every single word because I mean it. They were carefully chosen words. And quite obviously true.

They wouldn’t edit any other disability the way people expect Connor’s disability to be edited. It’s a hard no from me.
