Celebrity Big Brother ‘axes reality stars from new series’
Celebrity Big Brother 2017 bosses have reportedly banned reality TV stars from becoming housemates on the new series.
Recently, fans have criticised both the celebrity and civilian versions of Big Brother for repeatedly casting contestants already known for other reality shows.
Many of them have come from other networks owned by Channel 5’s parent company Viacom – including Geordie Shore‘s Scotty T (pictured) and Ex On The Beach‘s Stephen Bear, the two most recent CBB winners.
However, the Daily Star suggests that producers have decided to go ‘back to basics’ for the next series, which begins in January.
“There is a definite feeling about ripping up the casting book and starting again,” a source commented.
It is unclear how the U-turn fits in with rumoured plans for an ‘All-stars’ series. Jasmine Lennard, known for appearing on Make Me A Supermodel, has apparently already signed up to return for such a twist.
The news comes after former Big Brother’s Little Brother presenter Dermot O’Leary hit out at the show for its over-reliance on reality stars. “The casting process is kind of odd now,” he said. “The people who are on it are almost all people who have been on other shows.”

The Channel 4 era of Big Brother ended as perfectly as a reality TV series about a bunch of nobodies in a house full of cameras could. After its 11th and final series, it instantly followed with an Ultimate edition featuring various former housemates – celebrity or normellos.
Arguably the greatest housemate of all time – Brian Dowling – was voted the winner and he and host Davina McCall looked up at the firework-filled skies while the best bits of all series were shown.
Then Channel 5 had to ruin it by bringing it back instantly the next year, and have insisted on doing at least 84 editions each year, with the lines between celebrity and normal folk getting more blurred with each run.
