Big Brother is no longer a *reality TV Show*

Big Brother 2014 Australia has been one big mess. Started out promising with the couples concept, except this *idea* lasted only a week or so, Then we had so many ridiculous & overly scripted specials/ tasks etc, What the fark is going on? the reason I believe this show has not been doing well is because they have lost the whole *reality* aspect of big brother. They should Just go back to having housemates living in a house with no over the top, childish scripted bullshit. sick of the over acting & same predictable housemates. I have been to auditions in the past and saw MANY older, mature people (Some in there 50's ) etc being sent home while young attractive models/ people in the media/ radio presenters/ past housemates friends etc get through. With hardly any daily shows/ updates. Editing being all over the place with no cohesive story lines, I think i speak for most Australians when I say, It's Time To Go, Big Brother..... You are a joke! would not be surprised if this is the last season!

They've certainly lost something. I don't think it's the "reality" aspect, I think it's the "social experiment" aspect. BB to me no longer seems like the social experiment BB once was. I grew up knowing BB as this show that puts people from different backgrounds, ages, races, with different views, at different stages of their lives etc. under the one roof. That was the show. This season of BB feels like a carefully cast, extremely poorly semi-scripted, low budget soap opera. Because the HMs appear to have been cast as opposed to auditioning, the story lines feel forced. It feels like The Shire except just with the BB house, nominations & evictions aspect thrown in.
I personally would like to see BB renewed for another season. Revert back to the original format, move it to GO or GEM so it has it's own dedicated start time as opposed to the scheduling fiasco we had earlier on this season where we had 4 different start times for the Mon-Thurs daily shows, asking for Up Late to be brought back may be a bit too much to ask for but at least bring back Uncut & Friday Night Games. With a few minor tweaks & adjustment it may be possible to restore this once great show to its rightful place. [DOUBLEPOST=1416111441][/DOUBLEPOST]
Has become a scripted soap opera unfortunately.
That is amazing. The fact that we would both at the same time use the terms "scripted" & "soap opera" to describe BB 2014 says it all.

Unfortunately, I think it is time for Nine to rest it. Next to no-one will watch next year. Alex is gonna start it off with a bang, but it'll go downhill. Nine does not need to keep it going just because it's only been 3 years! Take a break, think about fresh new concepts to put forward to many amazing seasons for them to produce. I'm sure Nine can endure several months without BB to create better seasons, than resting it for good.

It was said a long time ago that BBAU is now just work experience for people wanting to get into the entertainment industry.
lol very well put. the thing is though, in past seasons of BB people have gone in to the house as normal people & whilst in the house they've developed a public profile & gone on to forge media careers...this current crop of HMs have gone in to the house not as normal people but already as members of the industry, several of them have casting & modelling agents, they have IMDB credit's, they already have a public profile of some sorts prior to entering the house & they're using BB merely to boost their profile. that's one of the main reasons why i'd like to see one of the more normal people win it i.e. Skye or David. say what you like about Skye's attention seeking whilst in the house, fact of the matter is she was a nobody prior to entering the house. she worked as a barista & loved it. she didn't dabble in modelling, acting, comedy or creating bullsh*t YouTube videos (like Jake).

I actually like skye, however she fits the typical and predictable housemate casting of big brother, a hot blonde from the gold coast! Would love to see somebody win this year you would not expect, like an intruder? just to make things exciting haha :)

I think this happens to each BB franchise. And also to most "reality" television shows. The Real World started as a group of people put in a house to find out what happens when people stop being polite. It is now a group of hot twenty somethings put in a house to show what happens when people are truly hot messes. People now go on BB to win. At any cost. And in order to make the prize money, the stations have to sell ad space. What do ads have, hot people.
And a short time to make a point. So the producers have to make a character out of every housemate. We have seen that Skye is more than a "dumb" blonde. That David is more than the beard. And Priya is more than her butter chicken. I just think it's the nature of television now to boil people down to bullet points. I for one miss getting to know peoples true personalities.

Personally I miss the Rats in a maze nature of earlier Big Brothers, they were tested much more and often did not win the task so that we could watch them test their mettle and see how they reacted to pressure and unfairness. So highly edited with virtually no real time viewing. The programming of 4 episodes a week, virtually no new info from nominations to evictions.
This petty drama focus which filled our screens with clawson and promoted Skye as darling and then Skye as Brat feeding the love hate tussle which fills the surrounding social media. Very soap indeed.

I don't understand the gripe about star times. Don't you just TIVO or DVD the show ? I am from the US and we also suffer from casting of wanna be model/ actors pretty bar people that end up being boring

Priya should win she is also normal smart and not a fame whore
