Big Brother Australia 2026 rumours

Some rumors are speculating an 82 day season in April, while another article speculates two separate 4 week seasons:

To be honest, if Big Brother were only a 4-week season, I probably wouldn't even bother watching. This year's season was already a struggle for me to keep up with, and for the first time ever, I skipped the finale entirely. I just didn't have any investment in the housemates - I didn't really care about any of them, and they all seemed so... boring. There was no one I particularly liked or disliked, I just didn't know them well enough to care about their journey

Of these two rumours, I'd hope the shorter season rumour is the one that comes true. Four weeks of the 2025 season was more than enough - eight weeks would be painful. I don't have high hopes of such a radical change to how they do the show...
If the rumour of 2 x 4 week seasons is true then that’s probably the worst outcome. That would basically mean churning the same “tried and tested” formula twice with the least amount of preplanning and effort.

In Terri’s defence, for some reason the housemates were instructed to call them “the Friday Night Games”

Probably so that housemates don’t refer to a specific TV show, e.g. having it more as part of the whole experience.

But in order to have something you can’t defend Terri: She’s a terrible winner for suggesting the return of a show that’s not been good viewing and most people (like Pedastrian’s Lachlan) don’t really remember for anything other than having a good time on Friday evenings for some reason.

A lot of people i know only ever remember or watched Big Brother Friday night games - kids and teens loved it.

My mate and I watched it at my place every week, assisted by wodka ofc. Now to look back at it, it's excruciating viewing. Stupid jokes, racist stereotypes, lots of production delays... it's actually painful to watch. And the ginger ninja can fuck right off.

Two seasons next year consisting of 30 days each is a terrible idea.

The season needs to go for at least 60 days. This year it felt like any momentum that was happening in the house was lost in the final week. The beauty of Big Brother is the longer it goes, the more you see the housemates' true personalities revealed, and stronger relationships are formed. This 30-day season killed all of that. That last week had the life sucked out of it. They also need to select housemates that are prepared to be there for 60 days instead of waiting for it to end like this year's housemates did.

Yeah.. because that’s what Big Brother really needs: The opinion of people that don’t watch the actual Big Brother but only stuff that wasn’t Big Brother. How about adding a Saturday morning Big Brother cartoon show? I loved Saturday morning cartoons as a kid.

Besides the "some people only watched FNL” part: That’s what I’m getting at. People only remember that they’ve watched FNL and liked it for some reason.

But it’s always just "it needs to be back, everybody loved it". Hardly anybody can give any specific reasons why FNL is supposed to be a good show.

People that hate FNL are better at naming elements that were good enough to rework them into something good than the FNL-loving people are at naming the reasons why FNL is a good show. And that’s not a good sign for the show.

I don’t want to ruin your nostalgia for the show. And it’s absolutely fine to say that you’ve always watched it or that it’s the only thing you watched. There are plenty of things that were the shit when I was a kid. Some of if is still the shit. Some of it is just that: shit. And some of it is somewhere in between.

When I was young I watched people calling into a TV show, then play the same 10 video games with their phones and not being able to finish the game because they are too stupid to press the 4 on their telephone to make that damn troll avoid a stupid trap.

That show is still dear to my heart. It’s my childhood. But that’s exactly where it belongs: my childhood. Nobody would watch this show on a regular basis anymore sans maybe one reunion show. Not the audience from back then and not a new audience.

And that’s FNL, too. It might have worked back then for a certain audience. It won’t work as a regular show for reasons that have been stated by others here before.

racist stereotypes

Potentially the only reason why Terri misses the show.

Friday Night Live was good at the time. I remember finding it entertaining and was always excited to see who the winner would choose as a rewards room companion at the end. I also see many saying they want it back. Thing is, even if they were to consider it, their current layout and production space don’t have the means to facilitate it. Not to mention what it must’ve cost to rig that arena out with themes and bespoke games every week.

I think the results of the show (reward room/benefits) are a plus for the show and I’d rather have that than the evicted housemate choosing that title. This is an aspect of the reboot that could benefit from being modernised rather than “modernising” the format and editing style. Surely there’s a way to bring the overall concept of FNL back inside a different wrapper.

At this point FNL isn’t even on my list of concerns for the show. They need to completely go back to the drawing board for next years season. Starting with old episodes and deleting their music folder from their edit suites would be a good start. The show would also benefit from at least one spinoff or alternate show that’s separate from the daily shows. They have an hour a day that they’re trying to cram 10 pounds of shit into a 5 pound bag in. Shocking that at one point they were able to concisely edit the previous days events into a 30 minute episode.

I hate the idea of further ~30 day seasons and unfortunately I don’t see the show changing all that much from what we just saw. I hope it does, but that’s just wishful thinking.

This is exactly why it won't come back...that kind of format isn't fit for audiences in the 2020s. And let's be honest, it was 5 minutes of entertainment that was drawn out over an excruciating hour of air time.

Plus the current team can't produce a simple live eviction, no idea how they'd achieve something as extensive as a live arena competition.

I'd much rather the budget and focus go towards improving the core experience.

It's what I've expected when Sarah Thornton said that the Friday episodes would have something that would excite FNL fans: having one task/competition that would result in some sort of reward. You could even do something more meaningful with that comp than just ripping off whatever you've seen on an old Nickelodeon or Japanese gameshow on YouTube.

Indeed. All we got was a few silly party games that were a Temu/wish version of Friday Night Live games.

Arguably Temu housemates too.. But I definitely prefer to watch these real peeps over insta wannabee's and clout goblins..
