Big Brother 2004 on official YouTube channel (Live streamed Aug 29 -30 + Sept 6-7)

If there’s anything BB04 has shown, it’s that this is when Gretel finally started hating the live audience crowd. šŸ˜‚ Her contempt for their cheering got more and more evident with every live show this season, haha!
It wasn’t just her it was the show as a whole that started showing contempt towards the fans from this point. I’ve mentioned this several times but production had this site shut down for several months in 2004 by threatening the hosting company with legal action if they didn’t remove it. I’m also quite certain Gretel was quoted as referring to it as ā€œhorribleā€ on multiple occasions.

Wait, am I reading this right? Southern Star tried to shut down this website? What was being said go warrant that?

Yup they did and like I said they were successful for a few months. I don’t really remember all the details of it but I believe part of the reason was copyright but that was more than likely just a smokescreen. Casuals might have loved this season but coverage here wasn’t so positive. As stated previously 2004 was the start of the over hype and under delivered era.

That's sad, and also a bit over the top from their end. I do wonder if Peter Abbott stayed on for another 2-3 years, if things had have gone differently... but I guess we'll never know.

They wouldn't have liked HM details being leaked here prior to the airing of the launch show on TV, nor the fact that they had no control over any of the content here, unlike the forums on the official site. They'd have considered BBBA a major thorn in their side.

A judge that continued in to the Nine era as well… Don’t remember who it was but there was a member who went to one of the auditions and was handed a note telling them to leave due to being a member here. There was likely more to it but still ridiculous that they still asked on the questionnaire whether you were a member šŸ™„. Especially considering the number of people who blabbed on FB and Twitter.

Abbott had had more than enough by 2003, if he was forced to stay on I can’t imagine it would’ve had much passion put into it and would’ve become boxes being ticked. BBBA did an interview with him in 2007 and it’s really interesting to hear him speak about his time in the role so candidly.
They just don’t make TV like this anymore.
I would argue MAFS is the closest we have to event television in 2025 but that’s only through fine tuning it in post for months, in terms of Live TV we’ve not seen anything close to this level.

I know we’ve said it before, and the same can be said for many BBAU winners, but it beggars belief that Trevor won.

I was glad it wasn't Paul or Ryan. Bree would have been better than Trevor though.
See, controversially, whenever I rewatch this season I always come out of it believing it was absolutely Paul’s year to win. Through and through.

If Tim Dormer can win it by essentially playing the game the same way, Paul should’ve too.

Was there any confirmation in the chat about a livestream for series 5?
No, they were very quiet this weekend except to tell people off (and make eviction vote jokes 🤪 ).

But based on previous comments, we should expect it. I also clocked they've followed a bunch of Ten era HMs on Instagram, including from 05-08. So I'd say they're gearing up for it, yes.

Will be interesting to see how they handle the audience this season, especially if the stage could be much closer to the house than previous years. Will make it hard to do surprise evictions, make secret announcements etc. Unless they do their best to soundproof the house.
One thing watching BBUK that made me reflect on BBAU is how well compliant our crowds seemed to be during Gretel's live 'quiet as a mouse' crosses to the house. Granted the BBUK hosts never have full on conversations and check ins with the housemates like Gretel (and later Sonia) did, its straight to business with the eviction announcement, but invariably its just enough time still for it be a thing where the housemates get paranoid about what they heard/thought they heard during the break in crowd noise if theres a panto boo or 'GET ***** OUT' chant going for a housemate that week.

They trialled moving the announcements inside during BBUK9 right up until the finale, although OTOH the Eviction crowd at particular times are very well behaved during the odd time they've had a secret surprise backdoor eviction etc. (probably under threat of removal or something).

I wonder if they were Guy Sebastian fans as well, this would've been off the back of the whole 'GO THE FRO' thing they had going for him in the 2003 Idol season, remember that? He kept that Fro until his 2006 album came out and he had a bit of a new look.
