Big Brother 2001 episodes on official YouTube channel (Live streamed Aug 1-3)

Since when have ethics come above money? If it's ethical enough to officially re-release them adding ads shouldn't be a problem either.
Ethical probably not the right word… At least with scripted programs you have residuals being paid where as I’m doubtful anyone thought there would be interest in watching the show two decades after the fact.

I’m wondering whether it’s 10 who receive the ad revenue or if it’s ESA who are receiving it. Either way from their view counts at the moment on the Big Brother YouTube channel they’d not be earning too much ad revenue, possibly 1-2 cents per view

If they’re even earning ad revenue

It's the same for every country where Endemol (or the TV channels) decide to re-air old seasons or upload them online. The German one, for example, also struggles to get a 1,000 views on their videos. I think the BBAU channel could do slightly better if they uploaded a video a day or so and try to please the YouTube algorithm, but they won't get a lot of viewers anyways. So they might as well just continue the way they're doing it now..

But even if they won't make a lot of cash from it, it's fan service and they'll profit from it in the long run, e.g. some press in France credits Endemol uploading old seasons of Star Academy (or Fame Academy, as it is known in some country.. basically Big Brother meets Idol) for getting people to talk about the show again and eventually getting it revived. The videos have been taken down when the show came back, but from what I remember, overall views for these videos weren't that great either.

They hinted that the BB01 marathon was a live stream of the digitisation process happening... When someone asked about UpLate in the comments, they replied something like "We'll have to digitise that offline, definitely not appropriate for YouTube!" I'm guessing they're not actually waiting a week in-between digitising each season, but I'm willing to believe it was true for BB01.

Channel 10 has been recycling a lot of the same clips packages since the BB04 finale/BB05 launch... think how it's always the same handful of soundbites ("Australia welcomes Big Brother", "Alright, they're going into the House", "The Bum Dance gave her cult status", "It was the eviction that was never meant to happen"), and that shot of the guy holding up the "MORE MONEY FOR MOIRA" sign. 😬

So I'm guessing it's a case of – C10 is digitising all the old episodes anyway to harvest them for new, higher-quality clips, so why not get some free goodwill from the fans at the same time. 🤷‍♂️ I doubt money even really comes into it.

100% not about making money or at least not directly. Not even sure why the question about 10 Play was even brought up in the first place? 🙄 The YouTube experiment has been successful as far as I can see and it’s not like providing a second source is going to generate any more interest in the older seasons than it already has.

Apologies if my fatigue related grumpiness upsets anyone.

As a Brit, that has always eluded me.

No idea who he is. No idea who Moira is. Is he Moira? Is Moira not a woman's name in Australia? It always just seemed like one of those unknowable mysteries of the world. 🥲
That was Bert Newton, an Aussie TV legend, he and his wife entered the BB house as a guest in 2013 as HM Ben was obsessed with them. As for Moira, shs worked alongside him hosting the advertorials on Good Morning Australia.

He also co-hosted the BB Starlight Children's Foundation Special fundraiser with Rove McManus which I believe was either 2001 or 2002.

And entered the house in CBB 2002 as well!

Yes, Bert Newton. Google tells me the UK equivalent is along the lines of Paul Grady, Bruce Forsyth and Bradley Walsh. If that helps.

Oh! I know of him from BB10 and Ben's obsession, but never would've guessed that was the same person. 😄 I guess tape over the mouth doesn't help. Thanks for the Aussie TV education 🤓
