Big Brother uploaded a new video showcasing the house tours over the years on 10 and placed a poll on their Instagram asking which was a favourite. Definitely loved the mid 00's houses the most. They were getting a bit too quirky towards the end. I can't help but wonder if this is to get ideas for the new layout, but I'd assume at this point it's already been decided.

I hope the cameras return to fully behind the mirrors.

Complete with Peter Abbott voiceover at the end.

I have to say I like S5 the best. In S6 they went crazy with patterns and it looked like someone had thrown up all over it. And S8 WTH? Ugh.

But S5 it's the bathroom that does it for me:

BBAU never failed to impress me with how open and voyeuristic the showers were.

The S8 bedroom was gnarly. They went a little too over the top with the entire house. One massive bed?! I’d be sleeping on the floor.

This may mean we’ll get some more “best of” compilations from the original Ten era down the track!
They did say over the weekend that they were told to start doing compilations. So they said they would consider a compilation of all theme songs so they can get them out their prior to starting to upload the seasons individually (as each season with a new theme is planned to have its own track upload eventually).

Split this into it's own thread and created a poll (you can vote twice).

BB03 is an easy win for me - not only is the concept unrivalled but the design is great too. The original house gets my second vote though not much different to BB02 other than the garden design. I assume CBB didn't change much from BB02. BB04 would be third place - a modern take on it and tweaked the BB03 layout into a single house well.

I did feel BB05-BB07 were all very similar with changes for changes sake. Agree the BB08 house tried to be too quirky and felt disjointed and badly designed as a result. I liked the backyard though.

I like 2005 the best personally. I like the open plan houses that force more conversations to become public. However the 03 house is very well done from a psychological experiment view. The 05-07 houses don't differ too much from each other but they looked the best to live in IMO. The 01/02 house was great as I feel it makes the Australian house stand on its on rather than looking too much like the original dutch design. I will also echo 08 being too much.

For what its worth I didn't hate the 2013 house either, I feel like it felt more Big Brother than the 2012 house did (what I get over tho with Australian houses is the house at times feels like a linear path with one room leading to the next, i.e going from lounge to the bedroom and then the bathroom).

After watching the compilation video it feels like there are too many "secrets" in the house every single season. I never noticed until watching it, but it seems that was a gimmick overdone. I hope to see some simplicity this year.

Gretel’s intro to the tour in 2006 was so good. I feel this was another prime example (of so many) of her contributing to writing the scripts for the live shows.

Let’s take a look at another vitally important Big Brother character who manages to be in every single shot and is always there from beginning to end. Yes, it’s the Big Brother house.

Am I doting too much or do you just not hear things worded like that on TV / BB anymore?

Beautiful. Am I doting or do you just not hear things worded like that on TV / BB anymore?
The way she worded things make something that seems simple (like the set of the show) come across more what it actually is and that is that the house is literally the star of the show. Mel has big shoes to fill but I feel she'll do fine on her own with her quirky modern take on it. But yes Gretel's way with words is so naturally captivating. She did fabulous when she would narrate occasional daily shows too.

I can visualise most of the Ten houses without even checking the video but really struggle with the Nine houses, though 2013 most memorable for the divide, but even then can only really remember the half-bedroom and the pool area. Similarly with BB14 no amount of therapy will erase the pink flamingo garden look from my memory but I've no recollection at all of what the inside of the house looked like other than the diary room.

Yes - keep it simple. Open plan living room, one or two bedrooms, bathroom, diary room, store room and back yard, plus a separate task area is beneficial too. Save the secrets for future series.

I just want it to look and feel like a home rather than a TV set. I really liked that about the 2001 house, it felt like a scaled-up version of an ordinary Australian dwelling.

The main facade that kept being expanded upon just seemed to grow and grow for a bit there. I forget which one but the house just seems to start towering (the segment where Gretel said “does big brother live up there?” Afaik, it didn’t seem to have any rhyme or reason in doing so.

2013 was an epic house in and of itself. Personally 2001, 2002 were fine for the time and had decently sized yards, mid 00s had the best designs (03 was very well thought out) and towards the end it just kinda started to crash. My favorite is 2004 and 2005.

Bring back the punishment room and fines!

"Ride the nominations pony" is still my favourite.
"Dip the nominations sheep" was mine.

I love that you can see real creativity in every House up to and including BB07 (I really liked the eco stuff, actually)... and then BB08 feels like a massive shrug. "The pool's small this year and the bathroom's clinical, let's just get this shit over with. 🤷‍♀️"

Nice to see Jackie O actually moving around and speaking, though... I remember her mainly hanging there limply like Kyle's ventriloquist dummy. 🫠
