Episode BBAU2023 - Episode 20 Discussion (Finale)

Will be interesting to see what this finale looks like. Last time it was pre-recorded on VIP, they did the finale up on the deck with a cover over the pool with the final three, but this time all the housemates are coming back so there won't be enough room for that.

They say all 19 are back (even though technically there was only 18 because of the sisters playing as one), so they're even bring back the one that walked. Bet she'll just sit there and not get to talk at all.

It is well known that 10 showed interest in bringing BB back and then 7 swooped in and outbid them.
I know back in 2011 Channel Ten chief programmer David Mott stated how he explored ways to bring Big Brother back but was worried that "audiences may have moved on".

That was 12 years ago 🙄. Since Banijay have taken over the format it’s had a global resurgence with many countries reviving BB after extensive hiatuses.

Going back to BBUK the fact that the most recent series outperformed expectations says a lot. The series average was not far behind the show (Love Island) that was destroying it the ratings just five years earlier. Not to mention that BB over the course of the series brought in 38 million viewers to ITVX. Social media engagement was also extremely high.

Of course Australia isn’t the UK but I’d argue that BBAU in its prime was just as much of a phenomenon (if not more because of its much broader appeal) and I’d say there’s just as much hunger for return to more authentic reality TV. I’m quite certain that if Ten could replicate ITV’s strategy of giving fans (most of) what we’ve been asking for BB could easily be thier highest rated show.

We told them House of Love was a bad idea Bring back the live element
It was so weird that Seven stated along the way (months ago) they had dropped the "House of Love" name for the season... which was bizarre considering it was still the entire basis of the season. Even the overdubbed BB voice kept referring to it as that throughout.

A lot has happened in the world and in the reality tv world since 2011. BB has been revived on Aus TV twice since then, in different forms from channel ten may have been thinking, and how they may think to reinvent it in the future if they were to bring it back. If this last decade has taught me one thing about TV is never underestimate what tv program will not be revived - the number of remakes and revivals continue to come.

The problem with both revivals were the attempts to “reinvent” the show. Ten would really have their work cut out for them as the ITV strategy isn’t so much of a reinvention but more a restoration.

Big Brother surely will come back again at some point. The UK revival proves it can work.

There’s so much wrong about 7’s version of Big Brother but the number one problem is that it is pre-recorded. That is never going to cut it with the Australian audience. This format isn’t what Big Brother is to Australian viewers. There was a reason why there was a lot of hype when it was announced it was coming back in 2019 and I quote people in the TV industry were shocked at the positive response. People were very fond of the original series. But in 2020 a lot of people were disappointed that this version of Big Brother was so different to the one they knew.

I only want another revival to happen if it’s going to be done properly. There is no point in doing it half assed like the Nine and Seven eras. After the initial hype viewers will drop off if the content is not good. I’d rather Big Brother be a memory at this point if they can’t go back to the original format. I hate the strategic format. The worse Big Brother gets the more the legacy is tainted.

Yay, it's on at 7.30 -ish! I can't watch it and be a part of the slagging of it by posting!

Oops, auto spell changes can to can't, or that's my excuse, anyway!
I can watch, and I'll watch the bachelor tomorrow!
Nice one, and I hope everyone (like, all 13 of you) will note the 7.30pm start time. Thanks for the reminder.
