To be fair I actually think the smaller Canada outdoor yard is sufficient and works well. Just wish they'd flip the house layout a bit so it could be accessed directly via the house all the time rather than only when the indoor "back yard" is open.

I remember those BB Gangnam Style promos. The bobble head edit job on Sonia is uncanny lol.

I've seen a lot of hate for it on here, I personally liked it. I've always appreciated how the inside jokes and activities the housemate come up with became public and the audience was almost in on it. To me, it emphasised the fly on the wall aspect in terms of the audience being full aware. And I loved watching people socialise, bond and create their own fun. I remembering going to school or family events and everyone was singing it, for a very long time. Josh was very skilled at song writing, so I've always enjoyed oats Ala Layla.
Agree - and really not sure what that Bradley Big Bang Theory one was supposed to achieve either.
Big Brother was popular with younger people and Big Bang enjoyed ratings success as well down here, for a long while too. An attempt to carry over BB fans to continue watching Nine for Big Bang. I specifically remember going to school Wednesdays and everyone discussed both BB as well as BBT.

As cringe as a lot of what the housemates say is cringeworthy, I have always thought very highly of the creativity they come up with. But the most important thing I take from it, is how the audience gets involved. I love Sara-Marie's eviction episode and watch it every now and then just to enjoy it. I love how she came out onto stage and saw the audience wearing her pyjamas and bunny ears. She was so shocked to hear the crowd say "and then" and "Hercules, Hercules, Hercules", to me it really does show how these people were on show for the country. It would have been more fun for Layla to come out on stage to see people in dressing gowns and hair rollers.

Respect your opinion Z but oats ala layla and that song performance stuff doesnt remotely suggest creativity to me. Spur of the moment fun like popcorn. Enjoy it, digest it and forget about it. So I take it in the spirit they intended. Certainly not ever meant as a chord to be rembered into posterity. But its what makes these early series so starky different to later iterations post 2010.
They sucked the discussions and spontaneity out of it. Its all robotic. The shows production and the contestants involved. They are too aware of their social brand. Its why in essence the original premise died in spirit a long time ago now.
Yeah I totally get everything you have said. The cringworthiness of oats Ala Layla is more of the fault of the show forcing the housemates to make something of it, rather than leaving it as a fun moment the housemates had when they were bored. So that I can see, but watching it when I was young and hearing people seeing it while watching it helped my mind see Big Brother as this big event. Unfortunately therefore it will always have a positive space given to it in my memory.
Overall though, rewatching 2012 directly coming off of the channel ten era has led me to think a lot less of the series. I am very underwhelmed by it, which I will touch on more when I finish. I was very naive to a lot of issues the series has when I initially watched, but mostly now all I can think of are critiques for it. The nastiness and bitchiness are mostly what I have come to notice more. I have always thought of this series as based around silly humour, but that isn't really what the main theme of the series was at all.

So agree Z. The show just over hyping the song was detrimental in its perception. I dont blame the housemates for having fun. At all. Im sure none of them believed they were recording a beatles hit.
But here in lies the rub. The metamorphosis of the show and particularly contestants chosen there after. From genuine convos then to bitchy snideness became the lifeblood. To now its animatronic nature devoid of all personality. The evolution is like watching a threshing body in its last moments and its sad to see for me.

I definitely agree with this completely. Reality Television in general used to be a genuine experience that the contestants would be lucky enough to be part of. We'd get to watch a journey and pick one to root for. Now, it's a sad excuse to become known or just to get enough recognition to be able to post sponsored photos on instagram.
The show used to present itself as if it actually took pride in its perception. Now it's almost like the show doesn't even care to take itself slightly seriously. I understand they want to aim the show towards families and children, but Jesus Christ, there are children who are far more intelligent than some of the crap that is served up in this show today.
What I loved at times with the weekly tasks was that they forced housemates to work together but also put them in vulnerable situations where masking genuine reactions and personality traits would be near impossible. Many of the modern tasks however made the housemates just look stupid and foolish and provided no anthropological analysis from them at all.

Yeah I found it so obvious and irritating. The producers clearly set it all up. it was the death of BB as we'd known it. After Ten's final season with stunt casting and conga line of annoying guests, to Nine's highly produced nonsense, actual, organic reality was a thing of the past. And you knew at the time it was all made possible by dropping the live streams. If Estelle ever comes back I'd ask her about that.
