If only Kate and David had been in the same season.

john might've been the walrus, but paul was a cat
But from what I've heard, David made this his own narrative. Danielle, Dino and Camilla all commented during/after the season that most conversations with David ended up coming back to his sexuality.for most gay housemates since being gay hasn't been their narrative within the show.

I don't think the mother/daughter was is really that interesting and could have just not been bothered with. I'd rather if one pair is related than all others should be as well. Why was Big Brother so obsessed with past relationships around this time? Even in BBUS4,5,6,8 and 9 all of them had elements of pre existing relationships and BBAU followed this with all of Noble's last three seasons.
Also the fake double eviction for the first Sunday night show is another example of a shoehorned twist to make up for the lack of eviction for the first week. I understand why fomuliacally there was no week one eviction but surly something else could have been done?
They were obsessed with 'World Firsts' (which often just turned out to be 'Australian firsts' just sometimes with a bit of a twist/technicality) and adapting a prior twist from international versions into ours. They'd wanted to do the 'fake eviction/Bedsit' for a couple years I think (IIRC wasn't it a big twist in like the 2004 UK season or something?) so that's where the whole idea of the 'Revenge Room' came in.
Also it was something to sell the season on in the first week like 'Whats gonna be the big twist/drawcard this year?' Then in 2007 they also went gangbusters on it, we had the secret couple, Vote in housemates, 'Mr X.' and The White Room all shoved at us in the first 3 days.

I recall a couple instances where it was brought up and them wanting to hear David's perspective on things, When Darren came in and they developed a kindof Batman and Robin kindof dynamic I remember the boys all having a sit down in the bedroom and asking David how the gays do it or something, lol.But from what I've heard, David made this his own narrative. It was also interesting when they brought in Rob as an intruder coming from differing kindof personalities whilst having that common ground of being 'a gay housemate'.

When you’re cast as the token _____ person it’s kind of hard to avoid having everything coming back to that. But from what I've heard, David made this his own narrative. Looking back it’s such an odd topic of discussion to have to have.I recall a couple instances where it was brought up and them wanting to hear David's perspective on things, When Darren came in and they developed a kindof Batman and Robin kindof dynamic I remember the boys all having a sit down in the bedroom and asking David how the gays do it or something, lol.

Understandable. But Danielle would have only known time in the house with both Rob and David (with her and Rob being intruders at the same time), and it was apparently David himself that would bring conversations back to his sexuality. When you’re cast as the token _____ person it’s kind of hard to avoid having everything coming back to that.
He probably had a lot to get off his chest. It's a relief to be out, after all.Understandable. But Danielle would have only known time in the house with both Rob and David (with her and Rob being intruders at the same time), and it was apparently David himself that would bring conversations back to his sexuality.
When I started working in a very hetero warehouse, it was the first place I'd worked where I felt very uncomfortable so I kept my sexuality to myself. Eventually I had to come out all over again, and it was very stressful. I don't know how people can remain closeted, it's horrible.

You’re talking apples and oranges… Please refer back to my original statement.Understandable. From my perspective being gay doesn’t define me and I don’t see the need to reveal my sexuality to everyone I meet.He probably had a lot to get off his chest. It's a relief to be out, after all.

I would say David is definitely straight presenting, especially in 2006, and that can be difficult insofar as having to come out a lot more. Plus I seem to recall he said prior to going into the house he wasn’t sure if he was still attracted to women of not, so i think he was still coming to terms with it himself.

Sexuality is a spectrum.i think he was still coming to terms with it himself.

Sexuality is a spectrum.
I understand that, but that doesn’t really detract from what I was saying. Maybe he was still making sense of or trying to understand where he lay on the scale/spectrum so his sexuality was much more of a talking point for him at the time. Just a thought anyway. We will see if it still is when all stars airs this year, well assuming he is in the cast.
It doesn't define me ether. In that scenario I was surrounded by blokey guys who kept dropping homophobic words, jokes and remarks (which probably weren't aimed at me, based on their suspicions, but could have been). I took it upon myself to speak up so they would stop it. In any case, I have no desire to pretend to be anything I'm not. It's bad enough here in Cambodia where locals I meet invariably ask if I'm married/have kids. Culturally here it's expected you'll be married with kids by 30 at the absolute latest, so they probably think I'm really strange that I'm not. I don't elaborate though. From my perspective being gay doesn’t define me and I don’t see the need to reveal my sexuality to everyone I meet.
Anyway coming back to Dave, I can understand why it would have been a weight off his shoulders, and despite being on national television, came out in a supportive place.

I was happy about this, I don't really care about who and what is casted per se as long as they're interesting, but it was nice to watch someone who doesn't parade what straight people view a stereoptycal gay person to be. David coming out and saying he was gay probably shocked a lot of people with tunnel vision towards gay stereotypes and it would have helped educate people that sexuality and personality are two different things.BB the world over tend to favour casting a certain type of gay men so it was nice to see someone like David on the show who didn’t fit that typical stereotype.
I agree that he probably talked about it a lot fo the fact of it being this was his first opportunity to really talk about it to several people. It just so happened to be in the Big Brother house.
It was very easy for me growing up as a Gen Z. Coming out at both school and the work place was practically a breeze. I would say it was virtually 100% positive reception. I go out with my friends to "straight" bars all the time and and reactions are beyond positive. It is a way easier time now. I empathise strongly for people like David who had to wait till he was almost 30 to come out when I had the luxury of being able to at 13.When I started working in a very hetero warehouse, it was the first place I'd worked where I felt very uncomfortable so I kept my sexuality to myself. Eventually I had to come out all over again, and it was very stressful. I don't know how people can remain closeted, it's horrible.
Gee, why can't modern Big Brother bring up in depth conversations like this? The deepest thing it has shown us so far are the depth of those cliff shots in 2020/2021.

THISSS. It was probably the first time in his life where he truly felt comfortable to be himself. I know from experience, when I was at a shitty school I felt like I couldn’t exactly “come out” because it would be this huge joke. I had left there in the middle of year 8 and already I felt much more comfortable. But that’s besides the point. I can’t imagine hiding something such as your sexuality for like 30 years.Anyway coming back to Dave, I can understand why it would have been a weight off his shoulders, and despite being on national television, came out in a supportive place.
This is what frustrates me about the show now. There have been a number of LGBTQ+ housemates, but there’s never any conversations to be had or if they’re. It’s all edited out. The way I’ve been able to hear about their lives… through underground podcasts. As much as it’s good for the podcasters to receive great conversation. Not having these conversations broadcasted is a part of what hurts the show itself.Gee, why can't modern Big Brother bring up in depth conversations like this? The deepest thing it has shown us so far are the depth of those cliff shots in 2020/2021.

From 1:47 Karen is being a Karen and slut shamed Tilli for kissing David. According to her Tilli could come across like she wanted to do more with him. I cannot believe a fun kiss that meant nothing caused such a stir.

2006-2008 may be the era of BB where my memory is the worst. Apart from the housemates and eviction order I don't really remember much of what went on with dynamics. 2006 especially, I don't remember much of the dynamics except for Jamie and Katie being a pair and Camilla/David/Rob and then Darren being their own group. Maybe it's because a lot of the other cast members didn't get as much airtime especially compared to Anna, Michael and Krystal. I remember Michael roasting Krystal in his goodbye message but in the beginning they were actually flirting with each for the whole first week. I guess it makes me more interested to watch as I don't really remember well how the narrative goes.
A quick glance at the episode lists and theres lots of randomly thrown in specials for no reason. Unforgettable wasn't needed but it's a fun one to rewatch, the revenge room stuff I've already spoken about, theres the truth and lies eviction? why? The housemates on trial live show, again why? This is where it seems BB gets extremely gimmicky and even more focus on the housemates being one dimensional and focused on drama.
The cast is also very very young. It's essentially a cast of uni students and much of the conversations about clubbing, hooking up and ex partners. It does make me wonder why my mum was so addicted to this show in her 30s. I asked her about it and her answer was "it was a time where there was no streaming so you watched whatever was on TV, and BB was the more appealing option". When you have an established show already for 5 years people will probably watch the show until it's death, but really it's starting to feel more similar to the CH9 version of BB compared to the early TEN years at this point.
The biggest thing I have noticed on this rewatch is probably my last point, the changing of the show over time. Like I've said previously I didn't watch these seasons sequentially before hand, the order was pretty much just what was more memorable to my mum. Starts with BB4,3 and 5 and ended with 06 and 08. So I never really watched the show develop and I didn't take much notice of how it changed. But from 01 to 06 it feels so different. I spend a lot of the time comparing it to the first season and also I strangely am constantly looking at the house trying to picture where the original lounge and other rooms are.
I find the cast a bit hard to relate to because they're all pretty perfect looking 20 year olds, but I can't deny it's making me entertained. The season just kinda seems more like guilty TV viewing rather than something to analyse.

I once worked out that the average age of the HMs during Ten's run got progressively lower every season until the final year where it increased slightly (dragged up by the inclusion of Terri and Terence). The cast is also very very young
Personally I'd rather watch a range of 20 and 30-somethings plus a few in their 40s. The problem is it gets a bit harder to cast 30s/40s/+ due to work commitments, family, etc.
