BBAU 2025 house in Dreamworld Exhibition Centre

It really hasn’t though. Sure the resolutions and picture quality has improved in leaps and bounds but the general physical technology is the same. BB has always used robo cameras. AU had them hidden behind mirrors for years. Aside from the sensors in them they’re basically the same, albeit linked over a network now rather than a serial protocol. I operate robo cams on certain reality shows and production always uses (the larger) manned cameras when able just due to they look better on screen.

Robo cams are considerably less resolution than manned studio cameras, which are much bigger and have much better guts in them.

The only thing that’s changed is motion control, I.e. motorized sliders and rigs, which in a professional capacity are considerably more expensive than using a human.

Even in feature films, film cameras are still preferred when budget allows because the image quality of film will always be better than anything digital. The technology has been the same for 100 years, but the manufacturing process of film stock has gotten better.

Anyway, not to flog a dead horse. That’s my Ted talk :)
IDK what you’re talking about cameras not having improved considering the thing I’m typing on right now has the ability to shoot HD video in the palm of my hand. Two decades ago the camera alone would have been at least ten times the size not to mention the software behind it or the cost 🙄.

Even more ridiculous is your comparing shooting BB to shooting a film… The two are apples and oranges.

The biggest concern you seem to have about fixed cameras is how much HM’s are aware of them when they can clearly see them vs not. At best it stops people from addressing the camera directly but in reality HM’s know they’re being filmed and really doesn’t do much to change behaviour. If it did we would have seen more franchises adapt this way of shooting instead of the exact opposite.

🙄 I’m talking professional cameras that shows like this would use. I’m not trying to elicit an argument over cameras, merely stating my point of view having worked with them extensively as part of my career. Sure, shows could shoot with iPhones if they wanted to. You’re not wrong there.

Back when BB started digital cameras would have been 1-2MP and they were for photos. Now there is the possibility that the housemates themselves could be wearing POV cameras (eg DJI Osmo) and we could see each persons POV through live streaming. Not saying they couldn't or wouldn't or shouldn't use other cameras as well, but that could be a great way to do the live streaming aspect.

The point I was making is that technology has in fact changed and what we’re seeing is a result of that. Fixed cameras have gotten smaller, cheaper, the technology behind them more advanced, and efficient. The inner workings may be similar IDK but you trying to say the technology is the same as it was 20+ years ago is untrue.

BB need to make a solid effort to not make it anything like love island.
The format itself is nothing like love island but the production style is very similar to love island being 24 hour turnaround in a purpose built house. Love Island arguably has been the best example of how to take the bones of Big Brother’s past and evolve it for an audience in 2025.

An audience? IDK about that per se but definitely from a production and set design standpoint they’ve evolved. IMO from an audience standpoint there’s been a little too much comparison. The biggest oversight is the fact that Love Island is way less of a structured format and doesn’t rely as heavily on group dynamics or decreasing numbers in the same way BB does. Expecting BB to tell a complete story in the same amount of time as Love Island does shows a lack of understanding that while there is some overlap they are two fundamentally different shows.

Also would like to take this opportunity to point out (if it wasn’t already obvious) that the only reason ITV picked up BBUK was to keep it from Channel 4 where it would likely have wiped the floor with Love Island.
