Thank you so much Goon for revealing the month when Big Brother starts :) Really appreciate it.

So a month and a bit to go (probably)

Agree with bleachydude that it will start early in September so they can at least have 85 days. ;)

Umm yeah they do. Last season they had the first few episodes where 2 teams would go head to head in a room design challenge and whoever won would make it onto the block and therefore the other team that lost was eliminated.

yeah but those teams werent actually on the block, and its not done every season, so its not part of the format.

nah, its being advertised as the biggest block ever, but that said we know they really struggled in the first few weeks, so my theory is that it IS a short season, but they're cramming alot of the rooms in together (doing multiple rooms a week, 3+ I'm thinking), cause you wouldn't be struggling if you only had one or two a week even if they are all newbies, so they're cramming it from the get go.
Why would C9 though cut the run of one of their most popular shows short in order to squeeze in a show which doesn't rate anywhere near as well.

I think there will be an overlap but not for more than a couple of weeks. Big Brother will be as short as it can possibly be - 8-10 weeks.

Exactly. If any show is going to suffer from a shorter season or even fall outside of the ratings period, it sure as hell isn't going to be The Block. Flippin' 60 Minutes gets higher ratings than BB does and yet they're going to cut short a show that constantly smashes the ratings and the host just won the Gold Logie?! They spent over $8 million for the Glasshouse building and people are thinking they're going to run a short season for what?! To make room for a show that can barely crack 900k viewers?! Some people are thinking with their hearts and not their heads.

Exactly. It does beg the question why they've recommissioned it considering it doesn't really fit in to their year, but I suspect they think Ten would jump straight on it if they let it go and that's not a risk they're willing to take.

Not a fan of the home reno/cooking/etc 'realtiy shows I think they're boring as batshit (no offense to those who watch them) but I'm glad it will affect the length of BB if their popularity means it shortens the number of weeks BB is on air. Anything between 2 to 3 months is fine by me, in fact I reckon 2 months is perfect as it trims a lot of the unnecessary 'fat' of the show.

Well Foxtel's showing Voice Kids and 60 Minutes for next Sunday but Ch 9 hasn't released their Monday schedule yet. I should be able to see at least up until 6pm but the whole day is blank and Ch 7 has stuck TBA in their primetime slots. Fingers crossed it's the start of The Block or the very least the last day of The Voice so we can get the ball rolling.

Did TV Week come out today? That should have next weeks guide. Many many years ago I worked in the program department at TV Week and we would have program details a couple of weeks in advance, but no doubt that has changed these days with all the technology available.
