Might they scrap the Golden Key for week 1 and re-pair the survivor with Danielle? Otherwise it's bringing in a BB8 replacement - Nick perhaps, if he's willing.

I remember the producers once addressing late entries, due to the nature of BBUSA now the producers think that having a complete new entry later in the game without being sequestered would give the new HM an unfair advantage over the other HMs. (I guess they think keeping one in sequester for a couple of more weeks is wrong)

Also the reason they have more Housemates enter on Day 1 than they need is to allow for an ejection/voluntary exit. Had Dick not have walked then there would have been two double evictions this year instead of one since the program now runs 73-75 days. BB4 would have had a double elimination week but where Scott was ejected they canceled it.

But.... the producers do leave themselves the option to introduce HMs later in the season. In the contracts potential Housemates sign while in the final stages of casting in the event they make it on the show there is an "alternate" clause. In the event a person is selected to be an alternate they may/may not enter the House after the premiere. If they do enter after the premiere they will receive a pro-rated grand prize if they win based on the number of days spent in the House.

Now, just to point out, the pro-rated grand prize is not new. In BB1 Beth, an alternate, was introduced to the public as part of a twist. Julie offered the remaining HMs at the time $50,000 to walk, unbeknownst to them, if they accepted Big Brother would have sent Beth into the House as a full HM eligible to win. Julie explained on the live show that if Beth won Big Brother 2000 (the original title of BB1) she would only receive $250,000 because she was entering at the half-way point in the season. But she didn't enter because no one accepted Julie's bribe.

It seems they've just given Danielle a Golden Key instead according to WeLoveBigBrother.com.

If someone was available I don't think them entering now would have been an issue at all - no real strategy was revealed in the first episode.

However - and this is something BBUSA producers don't realise - a housemate entering late in the series having seen some early episodes may be unfair, but that is what makes it such a great twist - and any advantage is just as much a disadvantage too as they'd be just as much a target too.

Imagine the paranoia of the houseguests knowing the newbie might know their strategy and any secret alliances - and imagine the fight to get them on side too.

Veto winner:
They are competing in pairs, and Brendon and Rachel won.

It appears too producers still think Unitards are funny. I wonder how much sway Endemol might have now over BB in the USA considering it is produced by Alison Grodners company. That is bound to be under licence, but it would be great if they ripped it out from under her and put in new producers willing to shake things up a bit.

CBS wouldn't be too adverse too it I don't think - Survivor and The Amazing Race have had their fair share of twists, many of which become regular features in future series, over the years, whilst after tweaks to the game over the first five seasons BBUSA has stood still ever since.

Nominated for eviction on week 3:

Adam & Dominic

Playing for Veto:

Adam & Dominic (nominees), Rachel & Brendon (HoH and her partner) and Jeff & Jordan (by a random draw)

Power of Veto results:

Brendon won... Apparently it was a "who is going to spell the longest word in time" -type of comp. And apparently Brendon used the same word (UNDERSTANDING) as he did last year...

Jeff came second in the competition.

When the switch was made after BB1 to sub-license the program to a US production company through CBS Shapiro said in an interview about the changes made that Endemol was involved in every step. The only change that didn't go through Endemol was the reduction of episodes per week. That change went to CBS which still wanted to do five half hour episodes and one hour long live episode per week. Shapiro really had to work Les into the three episodes/week saying that six episodes were too much for an American audience and three would provide sufficient coverage and would work better so the editors could make storyline similar to Survivor's weekly episodes.

The other changes like the rules, logo, opening titles, music, etc had to go through Endemol. Shapiro said that Endemol still wanted the USA to use the original logo like BB1. Even though Grodner produces the show any major alterations still need Endemol's approval. In the UK BB Small World documentary the creator has stated there is certian rules that should not be messed with but some can be adapted to the local culture at the producer's discretion.

Honestly I think if Grodner does anything to damage the BB brand in general Endemol will probably step in. This is after all their baby, their bread winning format.

I wish I could find a link to that article I read it a couple of years back in an archive.

But in an article Grodner did make a good reason as to why ED wouldn't return to the game this season. With him being in the outside world watching any portion of the show has removed him from the "bubble" she called it. While sending in a new Housemate would be interesting and the rules still allow for this possibility it would effectively disrupt the whole cut off of the outside world bit.

The Big Brother Small World documentary was made back in 2001 though - things have changed alot since then, as is evident in what the show has done worldwide.

Nobody is suggesting the US should do anything that would make the show unrecogniseable - it just needs it's rigid format shaking up a bit and the freedom to implement twists which will allow the show to thrive for many years to come and actual shock both viewers and houseguests.

Endemol have shown time and time again that they really don't care about the format like they did when BB was their bed & butter. Once the format is purchased BB producers can and will do with the format as they please.

The choice to stick with the same rigid format is solely between Allison Groners and CBS.

Actually in an interview with Arnold Shapiro regarding Big Brother when he and Grodner was brought in to re-tool the program to better fit in with American audiences he stated that a lot of the changes had to have the approval of both Endemol and CBS.

Restructuring the nominations/evictions, public voting, etc. had to be approved by Endemol at the time. This also applied to the logo, theme music, etc.

CBS wanted to keep Big Brother on for six nights a week just like with BB1. Shapiro actually stated in an interview that he had to push CBS to go with the three episodes/week we have now.

Allison Grodner can currently do what ever she wants to the format. CBS is very happy with its ratings and Endemol loves the fact that is on TV in the first place.
