I’m a huge fan of idols in contrast. Heck I didn’t really mind the fire tokens they had in “winners at war”. Thank Ganesh or your favorite deity that they didn’t stick with those fire tokens though, lol, it was good for a season or two.

US season is pretty much going all in with advantages or twists. Nut they do so in a way that encourages strategy play and bonding between disparate units of a tribe. It’s guaranteed narrative content.

You can’t film this show nowdays without a decent amount of idols or advantages. there is only so much excitement/entertainment you can extract from people sitting in a shelter all day and going out to swim or get water. Also people tend to do similar things every day, hang out with the same people with the same plans. That’s just not all that fun to watch guys….

Idols or advantages give those guys on the bottom or any level in fact, an opportunity to generate drama. The show will never go back to NO idols or NO advantages or fewer advantages….

And while it’s possible some units cam be led on by producers…. Most of the time it’s not. Most people who are uncomfortable, never go looking for idols or advantages. Those that need them, just happen to do so, why? They need it to stay in the game & obtain a lifeline to change the game!

The fact Sandra didn’t get the idol is % proof that the people who really SHOULD have one don’t get FED one.

I'm a fan of idols in general. But not when they're over used like in Australian Survivor. If there is an active idol possessed in every episode on every tribe then I am not mad about that. I am just sick of an idol being used in almost every single episode, it takes away from the game IMO. Why bother looking at this as a game and why bother playing when it's all about who can be lucky enough to find idols. I am not anti-idol, I do enjoy them in a healthy dose.

I disagree that it can't be filmed without a decent amount of idols/advantages. Australian survivor 2016 had minimal of them and was edited very well. The 2018 season also only featured 6 idols which is a healthy amount and the only advantage I can recall from memory is Shonee's vote steal. The show can easily be made with fewer advantages. I would actually argue the increase of idols and advantages confuses a lot of the casual audience. The camp scenes don't need to just be about survival stuff, fun antics, socialising and strategy can easily be shown instead as it is and be just as fun.

I also disagree that most people don't look for idols. Numerous interviews and podcasts have people asking them "why didn't you look for an idol" and they always respond with I did, you just didn't see it. Everyone would be looking for idols but there is no point airing these pointless idol hunts if the person is in control and doesn't need an idol or also if the person doesn't find one. Idols have 100% been planted for contestants before, S35 HHH had Ben finding a ridiculous amount of idols and production also let him play the idol before the votes were cast which in other instances has been said not have been allowed. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. for all we know there was an idol under Sandra's nose but she didn't find it.

First rule of finding an idol is don't tell anyone. Having said that, I would break that rule immediately because I wouldn't be able to contain myself. And I have a terrible poker face. ad would probably get busted anywaySo, it's easy to judge when people blab that they found one. But yeah, I totally would.

One thing moving forward which should be more of a factor in Blood & Water than any other series is the power, assuming it's in place on Aussie Survivor, to hand over your necklace to another player. Not sure if it was a factor in the US series on that theme but for me it's the only scenario where it makes sense to sacrifice your individual immunity to someone else, although chances are votes would just come back on you instead. However if you think your partner has the better shot of the $500k then it's probably worth the sacrifice.

For me, I feel like there’s been adequate idols in play. When they’re used up, they go back into play and that’s pretty standard. If I’m not mistaken, there have only been a couple idols in play, although that super idol thing is perhaps an exception, and that was played straight away by Juicy Dave.

They have only been played successfully by one player - Juicy. All other plays have been completely unnecessary. But they have created an interesting play for people like Kahn, who everyone knows has one but he keeps getting through each vote, even though they're all trying to plot to get him out lol.

Croc having an idol (it was really Chrissy’s), created an interesting dynamic for us viewers, he just walked straight out the door with it in his pocket. Mark finding one brought about a dynamic with Jordie. All these situations have brought us engaging storylines that would otherwise we wouldn’t have.

I would argue that idle banter instead of this sort of content has less value for Survivor. Big Brother idle banter, yes, please, that’s what the show should be about. Arguably, we could do without strategy destructive *twists* however. Although, by now, you'd think that twists being well known in Australian Survivor could also be played strategically - i.e. don't give fuck about who goes home tonight, it's a twist, we could tell something was up!

If idols go back into play what is the point of flushing them - surely better to know who has it than not? It's not as if you'll find it yourself when it's put back in play unless you're a producers favourite.

I'd prefer them not to come back in play, especially when someone is sent home with them. For me one for each original tribe then maybe one for each tribe at tribe swap, and then one at merge, is more than enough.
