At least you didn't call AFL aerial ping pong hahaha! And at least they actually kick the bloody ball and not throw it backwards! ;) What's that all about?

You can only go forwards, by throwing the ball backwards. But you may kick forwards, then run forwards, then tackle the player and push them backwards.
It's tough to explain to foreigners ;)
 
We tend to boo players who play 'backwards' too often. It indicates that they can't find a way forward or are wasting time. It is accepted as a tactic to switch play to the opposite side of the ground though.
