2025 Reboot Casting

In all seriousness, what is the time frame in where they usally cast? i was asuming it was gonna be the 1st but no
Under normal circumstances I think we’d have at least heard some rumblings about casting by now but the holdback has them working with much shorter timeframes.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much… What they’re capable of pulling off vs the amount of time they’d normally give themselves are two very different things.

It wouldn’t be unheard of to see people pulled from other castings pools and/or last minute swaps, recruits, etc.

Also consider the real truth in the above article, most people who audition simply aren’t Reality TV material and are filtered out of the process with ease. I mean shoot your shot but the reality is the majority of applicants are just desperate wannabes.

Now that Survivor and Big Brother are under the same ownership both producer and broadcaster wise I suspect they've a few people in reserve who'd get the shot, plus the reality is producers nowadays likely use external casting agents anyway.

With the "holdback" reports until mid-year it looks like casting might not open till June or July - and with a potential October launch I'd expect it to wrap up auditions in August then finalise the cast in September. If they push the casting ads hard a month should be long enough for the process to be open assuming it'll be self tapes (which is likely). I suspect they can use some sort of AI to speed up the process in the way regular recruiters reject job applicants within minutes too. Could actually be a timely "social experiment" to leave the casting completely up to AI.

They have probably already compiled a long list of possible HMs from Survivor and other shows already, but have to keep it all on the DL and can't proceed any further for a couple more months. Would have to hope they do actually open up applications to get some 'ordinary' people who aren't previous show applicants/influencers/wannabes though. Would be pretty shit if it's all done through central casting.

The later seasons on TEN would open audtions in the November/December and the series would start around the following April/May. On Nine auditions began around March/April and the series would start around the time of August. So it seems the average time between auditions and launch has historically been around the four month mark.

I would agree that there is probably a shortlist of applicants from shows such as Survivor and maybe even Masterchef who are in the running. You'd hope it would mostly consist of people who just maybe fit the BB theme more than they do Survivor. But that would be the easiest way to speed through audtions.

In 2012 Alex Mavroidakis went the other direction and played it super safe, casting rather bland people who weren’t going to cause controversy and were simply cast to provide a bit of family friendly entertainment(They were just dull and boring in reality).
I could tell, I watched the 2012 BBAU launch, saw the lackluster cast, thought "this is gonna be a boring series" and watched no more (except for like one daily show half-way through).

Nine certainly played it safest with the casting but let's not pretend Ten were much different. The first couple and last couple of series were perhaps the most interesting casting wise but those middle series very much stuck to a formula, and if they ever varied from it that was the exception rather than the rule limited to just a couple of housemates who often would be voted out at the first opportunity.

To be fair to Seven they didn't do too bad a job at casting on the first three series in particular, though perhaps there were so many other problems with the show we didn't really notice. Their big problem was basing the edit around one housemate - that absolutely has to be avoided.

The style of casting in BB4-BB7 was noticably different from BB1-3. The first three seasons really just did have general groups of people who were all different from each other, from BB4 thats where they started casting young slutty 20 year olds. 90% of the men from BB4-7 were the same version of each other. At least BB8 was something different.

Nine were at least more diverse in background with casting. Seven had a few stand outs, they were least very diverse in age during those first three seasons, but yeah the narrative focusing on one cast member each year did make it difficult to care a lot of the cast.

Was it just me or did the Kris Noble era seem like it was heavily influenced by BBUS? A few twists were ripped directly from BBUK but otherwise everything else from the overhype/under delivery, to the casting, the casting twists, FNL, as well as the complete and utter distain production had for the online fanbase felt like a page right out of the Arnold Shapiro/Allison Grodner playbook.

I thought you loved the C10 BBAU era?

I don’t think you realize from the way I post that I’ve always found the creative aspect of the show/online community the most interesting.

Also despite the fact that I’ve been a member here for over two decades now BBAU is one of my least watched series of the English speaking franchises.

I definitely have a good amount of respect for it having been the longest running era… I’ve heard Peter Abbott talk about BB a number of times and believe he understood the format better than most. But did I “love” it? Unfortunately no.

BBAU was always just a bit of fluff to tide me over between CBB/BBUK/BBUS. Especially considering I only became a poster here during the Kris Nobel era, having only discovered BBAU some time during BB3, and had pretty limited access to a computer until years later.

That said am I way more hyped ATM about the upcoming revival than any other BB series? You bet your ass I am!

I can see that, it was around the same time that they had Marion Farrelly as series producer and she had worked on BBUK and a few American-style glossy floor formats, she was also very open after working on BBAU that she would “import” ideas from the UK series
