Episode 2014 BB Launch TV Premiere from 8:40 pm - Live Discussion Topic

It seemed like they aren't evicted as pairs. Big brother said that they would a lot as pairs, then said that they would nominate and be nominated as pairs but never said anything about evictions.

I supposed that the evictions were in the same way, as pairs.

Just watched on youtube from China... I reckon this series of Big Brother is going to be awesome! I think they have brought back the 'event television' feel from earlier seasons, and it seemed as though Sonia was able to have more freedom with what she says when she was interviewing the housemates. I like all the twists, that actually turned out to be twists, and I'm looking forward to seeing how these people will react under these circumstances! A good few months of BB watching ahead :)

Okay so at first i was like "eh" nothing special then the vt's of the housemates were really good and i started getting interested again, i'm glad that it's on a later time slot it just means they can say "shit" which is better than no "shit" at all tbh. At the start i felt that the pair regime was just something BBAU can boast about being "world first", but then i thought this would be great for friendship and quick bonding/hating. I feel like bitching will be better this year, and i'm glad that all the housemates have a strong belief that will obviously challenge them. The house tour this year was very rushed that even Sonia couldn't catch up?!!! It is a beautiful house and for people saying that this is the last season of BB on 9, i think the 9 wants it back because they would not have put this much money into the production this year. 9 is finally loosening up a little!!

I agree - I think the pairs idea is a really good concept, simply because we can see more human interaction when it comes to things like nominations, making decisions as a pair etc. (especially when there might be personality clashes amongst the pairs themselves.) I think it will also become interesting when housemates make friends/enemies with other housemates from other pairs and see how those dynamics work out... I think channel 9 have done a really good job this year!

I'm kinda liking the pairs thing, and it seems like a decent mix of HMs this year, so I'm looking forward to this!

First impressions...

Ryan: I find it so disrespectful when people don't call others by their correct names. The "Travie" just rubbed me up the wrong way. It's like he was instantly trying to assume the alpha position. Seems like a tool.

Travis: Fairly indifferent so far.

Lisa: Hope she delivers the bitchiness she promises, but so far not loving her.

Skye: I like her so far. She's taking the piss at her own vacuousness. I think there's more to her than meets the eye.

Jason: Indifferent so far.

Dion: Meh.

Sandra: Based on first impressions, she seems the most likely I'd actually hang out with, along with David and Gemma.

David: See above - my fave couple so far.

Gemma: See above.

Jake: Could be entertaining, we'll see. I wonder if he'll stop bouncing off the walls.

Katie: She seems quite nice.

Priya: The baddest bitch - like her so far.

I agree with you on Skye... I think there might be more to her than meets the eye. One thing is for sure, I reckon she'll definitely be entertaining!

And pairs was actually done in Season 9 of the US version:

It's been done numerous times - three times in the US (BB6 was as secret pairs, BB9 and BB13), a couple of times in BBUK (mid-season twist in BB7, a recent CBB) and elsewhere too. Starting the show off on a lie didn't do it any favours at all - I don't know why they insist on bragging about these "world firsts" when the only people who'd actually buy into that will be the first to know when it isn't. As Alex says all the time only a few hundred people watch international versions, so why would the rest of the audience care about "world firsts?"

To summarise:
  • Love the house
  • Hate that producers decided who had the power first
  • Loved the process though for picking the pairs
  • Hate the crowd cheering absolutely everything and nothing
  • Loved the HMs - on the whole quite a decent selection
  • Hate Sonia - she's awful and I hate being treated like a three year old
  • Love... no, all out of love I think
  • Hate the way the show ended - the money twist was so disconnected from the rest of the show and just highlighted the issues of having no live feed. It wasn't put into any context - we didn't know how much time had passed or whether they'd really mingled with the others

Don't like the fact that the first hm got the power right Away

And she seemed to be on the ball right away about it all
Didn't seem surprised or shocked

"I'm all out of love, I'm so lost without you...."

Ha ha ha. Anyway, I think the show went by on a nice clip. They really seemed to speed through the pairings and get them into the house. The pacing was great. Last year's seemed to go on forever, but this year was better.

$10,000 to go on meal replacement shakes? No problem. Just glad it isn't that tasteless slop we have in America. I can't wait to see what they'll do.

I'm glad BB didn't ask them to give someone a pass to the final-- yet. If we have "The Power" and the Nominations Superpower this year, that will be epic.

just finished watching launch one..big fan..ill give it time to develop..havent read all the comments but i would consider it a good decision for the power couple to split the 20k equally amongst the initial housemates

Do you mean right then and there in the house? I don't think so. You'd have too many $100 bills floating around the place and getting misplaced.

What I think is going to happen is that, if they take the money, the $20,000 in bills will be put back and Nine will just send them a check later on.

But wouldn't that mean they're playing for $230,000 this year?

Oh I thought you were shading someone nvm.
