The Saturday 'rest day'

It appears that Saturdays are going to be a 'rest day' where nothing is being filmed for the daily shows, housemates are not allowed to talk about certain topics and worse of all rules are not being enforced (Holly has be talking without a microphone for a while now).

Apparently, this is what Love Island does. I think that it isn't Big Brother. Big Brother is 24/7 not 24/6.

Its probably more to do with changing work place laws than anything else.
25 years ago they could make people work more hours for less, now the same thing would be prohibitively expensive.
Its also probably to do with housemates mental health - to have a day they can really opt out of anything that might be triggering to them rather than having to play it up for the content.

You can still enforce the basic rules of the house at least...

Yeah true, microphones especially.
Surely if something interesting happens on a Saturday they’d show it on the daily show. Or am I that naive?

There has been too much content to fit all into a daily show over the last couple days. I've heard Allana say flamingo a number of times and I have barely been watching today as much as other days. So shes shutting it down.

Agree - it feels like an odd thing to happen, but I guess with the constraints that are already in place for this revival I didn't expect much more. If anything it seems like it's also an RDO and "off day" for some of the production crew, including Pete!BB (we've heard the female producer most of the day). Not sure how to feel about the HMs being told to actively avoid doing and talking about things though. The word "flamingo" keeps being thrown around a lot today on the streams, which sounds like a codeword for shutting down conversations that would typically make a Daily Show.

Some more discussion about it here, too:

I get that but something interesting could still happen that’s bigger than other days especially if they’re that bored having nothing to do all day. I heard her bring up the concept of saying flamingo when they were making breakfast and I just interpreted it as something they can say when they feel like a topic is too heavy or triggering. Because Bruce started with his “all men are attracted to a 22-23 year old” crap. Could have been something they agreed on earlier though and I just misunderstood.

Is this confirmed?

Crews won't be working if they're due a rest period. Shows like this typically have a rotating crew base to allow for 24/7 production.

I can see it working for shows like Love Island and Survivor, but a live show like Big Brother? The cameras must be rolling on Saturday's. Will the live feed be down? Just saw the Theorist's post. If the live feed is up then crews will be working. Perhaps the story team and a chunk of the producers are off and they want to limit the drama as much as they can so what is captured can be covered.

Housemates spoke about it earlier. It's live stream only all day.

The HMs have absolutely mentioned several times today that this is an "off day" and "rest day" and that nothing production-wise is planned for the house. Some specifically stated that footage from Saturday is not planned to feature on the show, although this could have just been their theory, and that only the live stream is capturing them.

Pete also has not been heard today, as far as I'm aware.

The HMs have very much been left to their own devices today with very little, almost no, BB interference.

Hmm. Interesting. If they're still locked in there then and the live feed is up then there are crew working, if only for the welfare of the contestants. Some reality shows now do these days off. But they're allowed out in public together while chaperoned. I assume it's no tasks or "confessionals" - I would assume house reality will still be happening.

Oh of-course, it just feels like it's BB "lite" today. Which makes sense. Just odd for Big Brother.

I gather this is probably not dissimilar to what was done in, say, Seven or Nine's era. We just never saw or were told about it.

I've yet to hear female BB, though I haven't tuned in much today.

I want to hope this is just for this first lil big brother trial for the revamp and next time with a bigger budget there is no rest day

Edward is saying that he being constantly being told "flamingo" (meaning stop the conversation) by Big Brother constantly. So, they are actively cutting off conversations.

This is just crazy. So everyone is expected to be stunned mullets or play statues or something until Sunday.

I dont think this is something that would have happened on 9? We did still get updates with the live feed and occasional videos uploaded pretty sure? I dont think it was a total blackout.

7 very likely any day could have been a time-out with their pre-record by months in advance.

Yeah. It's both the over-moderation of the house combined with the lax applicaiton of the rules.
As I said, Holly was talking without a microphone for quite a while...
