Also @ any producer that may be reading this - FIX the audio on the ad break bumpers, you’re meshing the intro of the old theme tune (the build up) with the big impactful ending of the old theme tune. Just have the latter part!

The reception in tonight's episode thread speaks for itself. I just don't understand how they saw the backlash against Seven's version and still decided to carry most of those editing techniques over to this version. Especially after spending over 3 months replaying the OG seasons with the promise that we were getting a new show with some sort of semblance to that iteration.

The live streaming is absolutely the saving grace of the revival so far - I'll give them that. But the Daily Show editing as it currently stands will absolutely alienate viewers if they don't pull back. The shots of Dreamworld with dramatic music, the persuasive incidental music, sound effects... there is nothing organic or natural about any of it. Nine's version might've undermined the audience and treated us like children, but at least it still stayed true to the format, concept and originality of the show.

The thing that makes Big Brother unique is that it's NOT meant to be like every other overly-produced reality show. So far, I can't say this season of Big Brother is much different.

Oooooohk tea now I’m getting what ya’ll hated about this ep and yes - agreed.

Cutting between the scenario that is happening, and someone describing the scenario in the diary room is veeeeeery real housewives / kardashians / BB on 7. We do not want this in this new iteration please 😭 @10

My takes (so far):

The good:
  • Mel. Fantastic host.
  • The house is great. I even like the live stage.
  • A good mix of housemates.
Needs improvement:
  • Sound mixing across all segments.
  • The daily show lens is inorganic. Not least overlaying scenes with HM commentary, this isn't Housewives. The POV should always be fly-on-the-wall observational.
  • Do not pull housemates away from an authentic moment to capture second-screen content. It shatters the fourth wall.
  • The live segment edits are C-L-U-N-K-Y. Mel is let down by shitty scripting and bad pacing (these are production issues).
  • Instrumentals (transitions and in-scene) are awful. Adds to the manufactured feel of the edit.
  • Big Brother. Fundamentally, he should be an authoritative and impartial figure - not an editorial one (on camera at least). The voice is grating beyond all belief.
  • Edit To Add: The ads on the live streams are unbearable. Not worth my time.

To most of us this is obvious, but lets present this in an easily digestible poll for the lurking BB crew 👀 . What do you think of the random music scattered through the TV episodes? Does it make you want to switch off?
It's terrible. Why couldn't they just go back to what it was, why put the music there. Such a terrible move

Will always vote against music in the daily show segments... but what still annoys me is that they're not even doing a good job with the music. It's especially bad with all diary room scenes. It makes it hard to hear Big Brother or the housemates, especially for hearing-impaired people.

So be more inclusive, 10. Get rid of the music.

Whilst I agree that they went a little too over the top on the score, absolutely in task montages and transitions between scenes, they can add music but adding music underneath the actual meat of the show (aka the social dynamics, DR entries and house discussions) is manipulating the narrative a bit too much as seen in the Collins DR tonight.

It’s 2025, no tv producer in the world would air a show exactly like the documentary style approach of pre Seven Big Brother, it’s just too bare bones in contrast to everything else on tv that it would alienate the casual viewer. I knew coming into this that it would be done like ITV have been doing it and I’m completely fine with it. But if they’re going to do that they need to be smarter with it and better at creating a polished product.

They just need to pull back a bit on the scoring but they’re main goal is to appeal to a casual viewer so there’s gonna be music whether the super fans like it or not unfortunately.

Semi-related because it is about the BB theme but in tomorrow's episode promo (seen during Sam Pang) I can hear a different sounding theme mix with a more 'doof doof' beat!? More 2003, less 2001. From the little I've heard of it it sounds amazing! If only there was a clean version of this available somewhere...

I tried to isolate what I could from the promo: https://vocaroo.com/1mKGKOu9bDqO

I ripped this very shitty clip from a Ten Promo today, definitely 2003 synth and beat, but with modernised twist:
