Rewatch Big Brother 2008 YouTube stream (25-26 Oct & 31-2 Nov)

No matter how many times I’ve seen it, that BB01-BB08 finale montage makes me teary every time I watch it. It takes me right back to the night it aired. I was so devastated.

Those were such formative years for me, and the vivid memories I have of watching and following BBAU during that time will stay with me my whole life. Being called into the living room by my mum during the very first episode in 2001 (“look at this, you might like this show”) to being captivated and quite literally growing up alongside it ever since, right through the ups and downs of my teenage years. It probably sounds odd, but the show taught me things - about people, about human behaviour, about society, the human body, to be okay with laughing at yourself, crying when you need to, how to be a good person… and how not to behave.

The show (and video packages like that finale one, as well as all the highlight montages they’d show at evictions, etc) also solely inspired my pathway into freelance editing at the time. And (albeit brief) I ended up producing many videos very reminiscent of those we saw on BB, because of BB, for a couple years.

So yeah, the 2008 finale was a sad night. Watching it again today, and hearing BB’s closing line “that is all… for now”, made me emotional for it to actually be finally coming home to Ten. Not long to go!

Feels, I relate to this to another spiritual level. From the memories of me walking through the house in dreamworld multiple times to the final night in 2008 where my mum called my sister and I to watch the final moments of her favourite show to then later it being rebooted on nine and my family sat up all together watching every single night. No other show will be able to recreate those moments for me.

Big Brother also taught me a lot about human behaviour as well, my young Aspergers brain (I know we say ASD these days but thats what I was used to identifying as) learnt that its better to listen then to always speak and through Reality TV as a whole I was able to pick up on types of people do well and which do not, allowing me to be able to mask correctly in my day to day life.

I love this show plain and simple.

I didn't realise the steam ended so quickly, but tbh this is all I wanted to see. I was there on the night and seeing all the past opening titles on the stage monitors was a nice touch. Especially when K & JO were saying "It's time to go Big Brother..." and the shot of the stage as the camera zooms out and the 07 eye was on the screen, was just so amazing to me.

Then that final package played out, and seeing the 2008 season highlights compared to the previous 7 years was like the production team either hated the season, or there was genuinely no good highlights to showcase.

In their defence, the 2008 section was likely “rushed” in the montage because we’d just experienced that whole season and re-lived all those highlights literally an hour beforehand. So it made sense to skip through it quickly, and dedicate more time to the other seasons.

The only thing I thought of that night, and still stand by to this day, is that I’m confident someone forgot to put the audio of Terri winning over the top of that clip in the montage. It had obviously happened only minutes beforehand, so it was naturally edited in quickly. But watching it, and the silence over that moment, I’m positive they accidentally muted the sound lol… which is a shame.

Pity this wrapped up in the wee hours my time. I wanted to see the reaction in the chat at the result from anyone who didn't know. Although @jessy_girl gives me an idea. Noticed yesterday that the viewers were down to a little over 100. Might not have been a great idea reminding viewers just how bad the show got before it got cancelled right before relaunching it. Anyway I've just switched the final 3 hours on and will let it rip.

I briefly looked at the chat during the announcement expecting to see angry people but that didn’t seem to be the vibe. Someone even said Terri is sweet? But with so few viewers tuning in I would say not many got to see the racism and favouritism play out.

I did see Lachlan giving a long thank you speech tagging so many people and thanking them all for thanking him so it’s possible some content was missed!

That the final 3 are two of the biggest bullies of the season and a racist grandma says so much about Australia.
It was really such a disappointing final 3, i really didn’t want any of them to win! Maybe Ben was the best of a bad bunch by default but I’m not sure.

So vastly different to 07 where I was happy with either Zach or Aleisha.

Sad but true. Even though Travis was highly irritating, I feel he probably should've been in the final 3 kicking either Rory or Ben out just to get some kind of satisfying ending to an incredibly sad narrative. I'd settle for a Terri, Brigitte and Travis final 3, I really struggle to see what anyone saw in Rory apart from his large penis..

With DOND on 10 in 2025, it pains me to think this could actually be a crossover post-season.
What do you mean… we don’t have to wait, there already IS a crossover! 🤭 There’s a BB episode of DOND with Mel airing tomorrow.

I did mean with some of the housemates, but maybe that would be too late after the series had ended. Or maybe they could use them as a second series promotion?

Oh that pissed me off. He was tagging all the chat regulars, then once he ran out of names he was individually thanking the sponsors of the show over the TEN-era, then started individually thanking the housemates.

Thank fuck I can pretend he doesn't exist anymore.

I just blocked him for every ep, and even then I wished I could block all the posts tagging/replying to him as well.

Omg I must have left the chat by then. Bless him, that is hilarious.
