What are you most looking forward to about the new season?

It is hard to believe that our loved show is almost back for a brand new era, and I am sure we are all looking forward to different things about the reboot. For me, I'm looking forward to Live streams etc, but also the little things that cost no money, and some of which were things that were so BB, but 7 didn't care about them. Things like having BB start every announcement with "This is Big Brother" and end with "That is all." And having Mel say "Its Time to go" instead of sonia's "With 3 votes, the next person evicted is..."(and yes I know they changed that in the later series".

And I thini I might just get a tear in my eye if we hear Mike Goldman with his trademark "This Program brought to you from Dreamworld, the home of Big Brother"

What are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to simple things. Hearing a normal sounding voice interact with housemates. The classic format returning (though I’m sure there might be some changes). Just getting to watch housemates interact without producer manipulation. Traditional nominations and live evictions.

Basically, everything that’s the complete opposite of what 7 did. I’m here for it. BB has taken a crap in our current day of social media that I’ve unfortunately lost interest in most of the franchises I was at one point addicted to. It’s sad seeing what the UK version has become. Very excited to see what Australia has in store.

Honestly just... the vibes? BBUK started getting more and more focused on 'conflict' from BB5 onwards (and especially the entire C5 era, and the steaming pile of shit ITV has served up this year 💩). BBAU was always my escape from that, back to a more old-school style of casting. There's still drama, tension, arguments, etc., but it never gets unbearably toxic and divided in the same way as BBUK.

Ruth Wrigley (BBUK Executive Producer 2000-2001) said:
I thought, if you put people in who you knew were going to create tension and conflict, you sort of knew what you were gonna get.

If you got people who would try and get on, because they were genuinely, sort of, reasonable human beings... if there was conflict, and there was a row, they would then try and come back together, and resolve it. And it's actually the coming back together that makes relationships develop and flow, and go in ways you wouldn't expect.

That's kinda how BBAU always felt to me. Impeccable vibes.

I remember reading Ruth's quote. It's still true even today. Idk what she's doing these days but she'd make a killing by consulting on some of these shows.
Maybe you've already seen it if you recognise the quote, but if not, I highly recommend the Big Brother Exposed doco from before BB11. It's really interesting hearing from past producers. Ruth, Liz Warner (BB1-2 commissioning editor), Shirley Jones (BB5 EP), Danny Bell (who was producing on Fight Night, and you may recognise as the "funny Big Brother voice" from BB5-6), and Phil Edgar-Jones (creative director from BB4 to the end of the C4 run, now commissioning editor for SNL UK).

Despite what I said about the BBAU casting, the smash cut from gentle, boring BB4 to Shirley Jones saying "I don't want to bake cakes. I want to spin people round till they're sick" cracks me up every time. 😅

I know she worked on TOWIE
Everyone makes mistakes 🤭

I just like people watching and actually getting to know these people, which was incredibly frustrating with the CH7 version cause you’d get small glimpses of peoples personalities and then it was just onto strategy talk and challenges. I actually think there could have been some great housemates in that bunch but we barely got a chance to get to know them at all.

Even if it’s a short season the fact that it’s live streamed means there’s still quite a lot of content to watch and hopefully as they said it’s “unfiltered” more adult topics will be able to be watched. I don’t care that much about seeing nudity (maybe they will blur that, idk) I just hate significant things being cut out of the show cause it’s still a part of their personality. So we haven’t had that properly since channel 10 days.

The thing I'm most looking forward to is no strategy or nomination talk. The 7 versions basically evolved to only showing that so I'm looking forward to a season where it is banned like in the original seasons.

Live feeds. I didn't mind Channel 7 Big Brother so much. I did enjoy the challenges because I like them on the US version, but as another poster mentioned, there wasn't enough of the day to day personal relationships. And I hope we get a good BB. Original BB used to crack me up a lot, loved his wisecracks and sarcasm lol.

Unpopular opinion, but tuning in for parts of the YouTube replays has been like watching paint dry. The show was groundbreaking at the time, but that old format is not fit for current consumption. I'm hoping for a punchier, more tightly edited series. Non-performative human narratives at the heart of it, with BB orchestrating organised chaos to keep things moving.

BBUK 2006 is my gold standard. Personality clashes and conflicts that represented the best and worst of us. Live shows only when warranted. No filler.

Interestingly, the wording of the synopsis they've currently got on official channels is:

"Unscripted, unfiltered unmissable. Big Brother Australia is the ultimate social experiment. Housemates live together under constant surveillance, competing in challenges, forming alliances, and facing evictions — all under the watchful eye of Big Brother. Tune in for drama, strategy, and surprises as the countdown to the new season begins! BBAU starts Sunday Nov 9 on Channel 10"

Key words "challenges", "alliances", "strategy" are prominently mentioned so I'm curious what their angle is, and to what effect.

I think just the public voting people off again is going to be awesome. I did not realise how tedious the "Is it X or is it Y" strategic thing every single episode was going to be until we saw with Seven's version. Focusing on the personalities will be a welcome addition again.
