Rewatch Big Brother 2006 YouTube stream (26-28 Sep & 3-5 Oct)

@jessy_girl oh yeah there were a few interesting tidbits in there weren't there. Darren being a homophobe definitely came across in the show though. He seemed like an angry/sulky young guy most of the time.

Yes in retrospect it was all there and Dave trolling him makes more sense because the whole time I was wondering what Dave sees in him, physical taste aside he had a bad attitude and came across as a massive creep. Like seriously, winning that knife had me worried for Krystal in the rewards room.

It seemed like Darren appreciated having a friend in the house but I so hope he was at least a little uncomfortable, and hopefully he has long since matured as well.

What’s with this final prize money “twist” - where they get different money if they win based on their personal fines?

The fines had already been deducted - so each personal fine was $10,000 each, not $5,000. Had production gone over budget or something and they needed to dip into the prize money?

Yeah that was bizarre. A Kris Noble twist for the hell of it? The fines they had incurred via mean Big Brother were way over the top this season already.

The mums visit episode was lovely TV. I usually hang shit on the Noble era but he did well here.

If they were to do it properly, they should been adding what the others had lost in fines. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Another societal shift that has been prominent this season is the difference between pereceptions of mental health. The episodes detailing David’s very genuine mental breakdown were not taken seriously, were constantly played back for comedic value and even had the live audience laughing every time the camera cut to him crying. That sort of mentality wouldn’t fly today.

(Side note, David revealed on his live he genuinely wanted out of the house at that point and hated not getting evicted, because he knew that if he made the Finale he would never get the eviction stage platform to discuss / bring awareness to LGBTQ+ issues - which was his biggest reason for going on BB. He said he was having regular chats to Carmel and the producers kept him on medication to keep him going.)

ANYWAY, this brings me to a vague memory of a clip from David’s meltdown/tantrum being used as a TV promo at one point… but can anyone remember in what context and for what? When was this? I don’t recall it being used to promote the 07 and 08 seasons, but definitely remember it as a commercial at some point… any ideas?

I always felt like Ashley was the one who actually seemed genuinely sorry and horrified at what he had done in that situation at least based opn that interview they did. Not to excuse his behaviour at all but he was just a naive bogan kid from Perth at the time. John on the other hand showed a lot of entitlement throughout the show and was definitely a bit more worldly than Ashley.
Well, Camilla revealed in her live chat with David that she and John chatted a bit in the years since, and he was able to move past it, however she alluded that Ashley completely ignored her at a BB wrap party and they never spoke since he was in the house. To me, that implied he may have actually blamed her for (lacking terminology here) “ruining his life”.

Fun fact: A contestant on the UK show Playing It Straight in 2012 who was one of the runner ups actually went through right through the casting process for Big Brother 2006. He claims he was cut from the cast because he wanted to come out on TV and they already had David as the person they wanted to do it. His name was Sven I think.

You were quick! Fair enough, I haven't seen much of the live stuff.

I’m watching the stream now and that’s exactly the bit I’m up to. A lot of interesting stuff being said.

Just finished watching that, I love how positive Camilla is about her experience and she admittedly says she has no issue talking Big Brother. Good for her, I genuinely am happy to see that she is thriving and I did not expect to hear her say she would consider doing it again. It makes me even more angry that we had a returnee season wasted on channel 7 so close to the 10 reboot. It would have been the perfect solution to this holdback issue.

And that stream also changed a lot of my perception of David tbh, I feel like I was very harsh on him when I wrote my thoughts on the 2006 housemates and I didn't realise that he was a bit more strategic than he ever portrayed himself to be. The trolling of the Darren crush is crazy for me to wrap my head around.

I forgot how hard of a watch the reunion of David and Sherif was.. both of them are so stiff.. the hideous Belinda Carlisle cover.. cringe

Quick question for the gays, forgive me for objectifying him but do you find Dave hot?

To me he seems objectively very handsome but it feels like it’s almost exclusively middle aged women and old aunty types that lust after him.

No real point to this survey, I am just curious.

Not my type, no sorry.

He's good looking and seems like a lovely guy, but not for me. Especially the long hair.

I feel like thats a very accurate read lol. I will echo that he is objectively good looking and 'handsome' so to speak but I wouldn't go as far to say that I would lust over him. I do like his hair but IDK I'm not into the whole tall and generically handsome look personally. 13 year old me probably would feel different but not really my type.
