Big Brother 2006 on official YouTube Channel (Live-streamed 26-28 Sep & 3-5 Oct)

Similarly I really love Brigitte so much and I wish she had been on a different season to get the icon status she deserves. I realise this is maybe not a widely shared opinion though.
She’s in the top 5 best BBAU housemates ever but a lot of people aren’t ready for that conversation
She's on my mount rushmore of BBAU lol. I think its universally agreed that Sara-Marie, Reggie and Vesna are amongst the most popular housemates from the 10 era, but Brigitte is one of the best castings finds in Australian reality tv. I don't think anyone can come close to how cartoonish she was in such an abrupt way whilst also being their true self.

I feel horrible for Camilla that this incident is the front cover of her Big Brother story. She was a brilliant housemate and a very deserving finalist, but what a shame that all of her best moments and character development take a backseat to the show's biggest controversy.

100%. Her name will forever be tied to this and she really was a fantastic housemate who brought so much more than this.

This is pretty heavy to watch actually.
I feel the weight of it more each time I rewatch. The more years pass the more I look at it and visibly drop my jaw. The live feed footage is still on youtube and it just feels so much more confronting. Watching Gretel address this on the live show is surreal as well, BBAU's name was well and truly tarnished from this for a long while. I feel like the outrage and backlash would be even worse today.

Also a very underwhelming exit for John who I personally think was starting to come of his own once Danielle had left, particularly the rule breaking and ever-coming punishments from Big Brother. Ashley however was kind of just there as an extra for the boys and I never took him that seriously as a housemate.

And like I said in 2022 in the rewatch thread, having two replacements enter on Day 80 was unnecessary. Both days 92 and 99 were doubles which did not need to happen, one or even both could have just been single evictions and there did not need to be a snap eviction on day 95 either. The series could have just continued as per normal and the pacing wouldn't have been messed around with. And I guess Krystal fans could have enjoyed her for a little while longer maybe. The Claire/Krystal eviction just messes everything up for me. I wonder if TEN mandated the intruders tho and weren't willing to cut the duration of the final eviction shows or didn't want to cut one all together.

Yes I think it wasn’t as impactful when I was younger. Not that I ever defended John and Ashley and always recognised it as wrong, but maybe I didn’t have the full perspective to get the gravity of it. I have seen it a few times now and I agree, it feels heavier each time. So many complex layers to it and disappointing that some people still don’t see it as a big deal, but anyone who actually watches what just aired would surely realise.

Imagine being the member from these forums who captured it and uploaded a download link from this website…

Without them, or BBBA reporting it on the then-news page, this honestly would never have been blown up the way it did.

(That’s not me saying it made it any less right or wrong. Just the butterfly / domino effect of that one fan’s decision to save and upload the footage.)

I was thinking of this exact point when I woke up and remembered that today it would be streamed. And said person must have sold/given it to other networks who still used it when the ACA reunion show was aired. I can't remember if it was just audio or of the clip was played but the footage was actually used by Channel 9 during that special. Wild!

I don’t even think it needed to be sold. It was literally readily available and shared in a thread here, and subsequently the official BB forums (before they shut them down) and other sites, within hours.

I remember Tim and/or David (BBBA owners) being interviewed on the news that evening.

It was weird watching that again. I did actually watch the live stream clip and it was actually shocking, even after this long. Two dumb young kids mucking around and made a mistake that not only tarnished the franchise, but made villains. I don't think they're bad people. They were just being stupid. Not to mention it was something that was completely out of productions hands. I think they addressed it the best way they could. These days a phone support number would've been added at the end of the episode. It always takes something drastic happening for things to change. Was it worthy of the immense press coverage it received? No. You throw a bunch of young kids in a house and watch them interact - the social experiment concept of the show. This, or something similar, would happen eventually.
