Big Brother 2001 episodes on official YouTube channel (Live streamed Aug 1-3)

Umm… tell me they’re reading this forum without telling me they’re reading this forum…

And people claim this place isn’t relevant anymore 🙄

IMO they’ve been watching us at very least since the end of the 7 era. A potential return to 10 had been discussed quite a bit over the years but only became relevant at that point. Social media comments calling for a return to the original format were abundant but this is really the only place where discussions of what that could look like were taking place/why waiting an extended period didn’t matter/etc. They’ve gone well beyond the ITV model to claim that’s what’s been driving this revival. As @MDH_2000 said there’s too many coincidences…

Also great to see you back @the Theorist 😉

The 20:24 one is Gretel explaining the nomination rules
The 16:56 one is hard to explain as I don't know the correct name for it, but It's like a little advert for the upcoming live nominations.
Thanks again. Interesting though… I can’t remember what season it was that I watched the premiere and I actually really enjoyed the pomp and pageantry of having the format explained. Weird that they’d cut something so trivial especially when I feel like these little bits actually add to the idea that you’re watching an event not just a repeat of an old TV show.

The latter one isn’t an issue, that’s just an advert which aired during the original commercial break that the person who recorded decided to leave in. It’s not part of the actual episode.

I’m more concerned about them cutting something of importance like Gretel in the control room explaining the origins of Nominations. As @Kingston said, it adds to the sentiment of the program’s infancy, and it’s very nostalgic. Especially when these clips from the control room were an integral insight into the behind-the-scenes of the show, and became rarer as the series went on. Not a fan of them editing out stuff like this… nor culling the end credits.

Why are they removing the end credits? Small in the grand scheme of things but still - part of the experience.
They’ve been doing the same with Neighbours. But that I can sort of understand. It doesn’t make much sense for Big Brother, especially when they were already part of the live stream.

RIP to “Dreamworld the home of Big Brother” and that wonderful “Tennnnn” outro. haha

To me the outro was always a reminder that Canwest Global knew how successful a BB franchise of their own could be but it wasn’t until they went bankrupt and their Canadian operations were sold to Shaw Media (and eventually Corus) that we got BBCAN.

If you're watching some episodes back-to-back, you just get a a couple of seconds of the the blue/green tinted cameras, then you're straight into the next episode. Makes it a bit more bingeable I guess.

No word but I would be suprised if they don't.
I’d be surprised if they did TBH. For one they aren’t paying for bandwidth on YouTube and two I’m not certain it’s ethical to be making money off a show that was never intended to air beyond the original run… Even if they’re only using ad revenue they earn to pay for hosting the episodes.

How would they profit from putting it on their streaming platform? I haven't personally used Ten Play but most networks offer their content for free on their platforms if you live in the country they're based. It wouldn't be any different than being able to go back on ITVX and watch their past seasons in the UK.

They make money from the advertisement that gets shown before, during and (potentially) around the video.

How do you think free to air networks make money? 🙄

Also there’s a huge difference between ITV streaming shows they produced in the last few years and have contracts negotiated taking in to account how shows are distributed in the modern age and ITV digging up something that aired two decades ago and making money off it now. Scripted programming is completely different than a reality TV show that was only ever intended to air in real time.

Also for anyone saying “just stream them without ads” for one that’s exactly what they’re doing on YouTube and two they’re doing it without added costs associated with hosting/streaming the content.

Since when have ethics come above money? If it's ethical enough to officially re-release them adding ads shouldn't be a problem either.
