Big Brother 2001 episodes on official YouTube channel (Live streamed Aug 1-3)

. Seven's overdubbed voice was cringe and I hated it.
yes and felt very one note and came across as cartoonish. There was no relationship present with the housemates and the big brother figure at all.

Sevens version was looking shit going into it, it was horrible at the time and it’s even worse looking back! I still cannot believe that it seriously happened.

I even caught someone referring to Big Big Brother on one of the eps I caught live on the weekend stream, and knew the reference. I don't mind hearing the different BB voices on the show, even when it's a woman. Back in the day I thought it should be some big booming digitised voice, but ultimately I liked the personalities of the various BBs. Seven's overdubbed voice was cringe and I hated it.
I mean going back to 1984 Big Brother isn’t a real person it’s more of a government ministry so it only makes sense that multiple people would be filling the role. In this case Big Brother represents production which again has multiple people filling roles behind the scenes. I’m also of the belief that Big Brother doesn’t have a gender and Big Brother is a proper name/title. Australia’s use of he/him pronouns always kind of bothered me as Big Brother is Big Brother and use of the word Brother is simply to imply authority/humanization.

I initially didn’t mind the voice but ended up hating it as the series progressed. IDK there was something about BB becoming a full on character, having conversations with HM’s, and providing narration that bothers me. Doing anything other than making announcements and asking probing questions I think cheapens the role.

I feel like I've read before that the BB voices (at least were) came from the on-shift producer at that time.

Yeah.. that's how they've handled it in the original version as well. Different people responded to the housemates but had to consult with executive producers on how to proceed with requests from the housemates etc..

IIRC there was somebody from the 7th season in Australia who complained afterwards that they've dreaded going to the diary room, because it's always been "Big Brother will get back to you" and they had to wait for ages for people to check the rules/with the EP what to do. Might have been Bodie.

That's where 7 was even worse... that's when the voice started to refer to themselves in the first person. (Although they haven't been the first worldwide to do that. That might have been invented by Germany, when they adopted Australia's 04-07 voice.. that voice referred to himself as I. And also was dubbed in outside of live shows, if needed.)

Spain has a nice distinction.. they refer to the voice as El Súper, not Gran Hermano.

I hated BB just casually interacting with the housemates and narrating the challenges but I thought them narrating Uncut worked quite well.

Do we think it is 10 or Banijay/Endemol putting in the legwork with the YouTube channel?

Personally I loved the consistency the Nick BB voice brought in, in terms of phrasing – "Is there anything else?", "That is all", etc.

But I really appreciated the warmth Leon added on top of that... he was still commanding when he needed to be, but also paternal and playful at times.

I loved that he would occasionally say goodnight to the Housemates when they said goodnight to him, or join in with their word association or whatever.

I hope, if it ends up being Peter Abbott this time, that he doesn't drop all the consistency and revert to his "pretty much just a producer with a gravelly voice" BB03 Persona. 🤔

Ehh, if we're bringing Orwell into it, Big Brother is a "him" in the book. Even though "he's" an entity, not a person.
Goldstein was the renegade and backslider who once, long ago (how long ago, nobody quite remembered), had been one of the leading figures of the Party, almost on a level with Big Brother himself...

I'm gonna keep an ear out for the changes in voice. I noticed Peter Abbott wasn't really featured much at the very beginning of S1.

Are there any episodes that show more behind the scenes? I'm interested in the control room. Big Brother's Little Brother in the UK used to regularly go into the control room and show around. Was this done in Aus?

In the first few seasons, yes.

Speaking of, is there any word from the YouTube account about uploading a digitised version of Big Brother Revealed, the special that aired two weeks before the premiere? Love that special.

Haven't seen anything about that. It's the first episode in old season 1 playlists. Ask on their social platforms - the people running their accounts have been very engaging.

Wowww. Re-watching that first eviction. Gretel stomping out to the stage. Laughing with the crowd. Telling them to be quiet before “quiet as a mouse”. Not saying “it’s time to go” before the name.

Did they bring in the eviction gangway / plank for season 2?

Season 3. I also remember they upgraded to hauling them into the back of a Car or Van (with a screen set up inside it?) to drive up to the end of the gangplank in'03 and '04, instead of the golf buggy.

Season 2 they were still coming in through the back of stage down the hallway iirc. Also remember Kyle Sandilands entrance from the launch of Celeb Big Brother 2002? Wheeled in with a Hannibal Lecter mask? LOL I wonder if CBB is on the agenda to include uploading.

"And just like that..." used to drive my fucking insane. I refused to watch that era.

So can we assume they are doing season 2 this weekend? I am definitely keen for this but I’m also questioning if I can really commit to this every weekend, I felt like I neglected every aspect of my life last weekend. I will need supplies for my viewing party.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a monthly thing.
