BBAU Rewatch

So the events that unfolded after the exposure of Michael were short lived. Most of them were angry but it died down after 24-48 hours and no one really seemed to care that much anymore. Anna and Krystal were annoyed because of their experiences with their father issues, big whoop I have daddy issues too and wasn't offended. David for the moment is very sensitive and too serious, Dino is a chauvinistic asshole who thinks he's god's gift to women and everyone else I find either annoying or don't care about.

Also did some playing around with the maths of the voting system, the voting % shown to the early evictees seem to be the percentage of votes their new total was of the original vote total, rather than a % of what the merged vote was. So technically the 20% Tilli received was actually 61% and the 36% Karen scored was really 64%. I'm a maths nerd so yes this is a big deal to me and it annoys me that the wrong %s were shown.

Yeah I am pretty much agree completely. Just end the insider twist with one final task and be done with it, expose him at the finale. I couldn't even see most of the drama unfold because of the fucking 3 minute beep that aired when they were all swearing at Michael. Also showing the footage of Michael is a no no to me. Flop twist (but is that really anything far from the norm on BBAU?)
It wasn’t a flop per say but really just a twist for the sake of a twist and one that production really didn’t know what to do with or how to properly execute to its full potential. I also found the fact that the Australian BB is an asshole to be a bit jarring especially when it came to this twist. It worked so much better in the UK where BB has a bit more of a personality.

The reason I say it flopped is because more came from the reaction to the twist over the twist itself. More could have been done but like you say it wasn't done to it's full potential. BBUS did pretty well with America's Player IMO so at least somewhere out there a similar concept was able to work all season long.

I am indifferent to the evil BB. The later Australian versions of the show love making the BB voice this snarky/chaotic character and I don't completely hate it. But there are times where I find it a bit much, especially in nominations. Who really cares if their reasons aren't adequate enough, at the end of the day if the public doesn't like someone they're gonna go, so what does it matter what someone's reason is for nominating them?

So far I find BB6 way too gimmicky for me to take it seriously. There isn't a lot being shown about the housemates about their lives and it's all drama after drama. I also can't lie and pretend I am not intrigued and yes it is probably easier to watch then BB1-3, but from a analytical view of the show I think I prefer BB1-3's direct emphasis on the social experiment.

Agree - just petty and on a power trip rather than witty and engaging. Was never a fan of the Aussie BB's attitude really.

So The Insider actually came before America's Player. I think they were trying to rip off elements of the secret missions in BBUK6 the year before, which often ended up in the hands of the same person even though that wasn't necessarily the plan.

I think the trouble with Aus - and it's actually one of the few faults I find with BB Canada too - is the producers are oh too proud of themselves when they pull off any kind of secret twist so can't wait to tell all the housemates about it rather than either letting it run a little bit longer or just letting it remain between the housemates involved, Big Brother and the viewers. Indeed part of the fun of watching Big Brother is us as viewers knowing things the housemates don't, so when Big Brother spills the secrets they're often betraying the viewers long term enjoyment for a short term moment which rarely delivers what producers think it will.

LOL I'm watching 2006 Adults Only #3

Jamie: "I think she (Katie) should lose it (Virginity) to someone as (in)experienced as she is"
Dino: "oh, I'll volunteer"

What do you mean, Dino  haha.

Also that opening, Ashley picking 'New Zealand' from his nose qualifies for Adults Only content apparently. Haha.

Exposing Michael was completely unnecessary and for a small amount of drama it caused wasn’t even that entertaining.

They had to do it that night with the intruders going in having watched Michael be the insider for several weeks.

Also had to laugh directly after Krystal's story about wondering how the pr0n actress with the stretched labia puts them into her pants, cut to Gretel: "Big Brother just asked me whether that's what they mean when they ask if you Scrunch or Fold". 🤣

13:41 Imagine having the balls Michael had. He's like that kid in class who had all the confidence in the world to try to humble the teacher. Even Gretel's facial reaction screamed"was what the actual fuck".

it was obvious during the live noms eps that BB was only being argumentative to pad out the show.

@Kingston is right. That BB was an asshole.
The BB Voice for 06 was unnecessarily strict. I found it funny when I was a kid but watching it now and listening to him ridicule them for their nominations is just so pointless. Who tf cares how shit their reasons are and sometimes their reasons are fine, it's just they aren't intelligent enough to use the correct synonym to make their point concise. If anything it looks like he knows this and is trying to embarrass them and make them feel stupid. I am watching some of these nominations and I am screaming at my TV saying "OMG JUST SAY X IS INCONSIDERATE, MAKES YOU FEEL INFERIOR AND YOU DONT WANT TO LIVE WITH THEM FOR 3 MONTHS" but BB knows some of these housemates cannot articulate themselves to his standard yet belittles them until they are completely mind fucked and confused. Not to mention the stress of nominating is probably really hard on them and makes it harder.

Ugh yes the repeated “what are you trying to say” and “it’s a cop out” was annoying. I also found it kind of annoying how BB would ask if they had talked to the other person about x issue and would try not to accept the nomination if not. Was that a requirement? Plenty of people would be non confrontational and sometimes it was just a personality clash anyway that couldn’t be easily resolved by a conversation.

Given the direction Seven have taken now it's even more ironic they tried to stamp out strategic nominations too, though occassionally had weeks, perhaps more in the Nine era actually, where they were encouraged to vote strategically but clearly the housemates voted for who they wanted to vote for regardless and tried to frame their reasoning to fit the narrative.

Generally though as a viewer all you want is the name and the housemates reason for nominating them. If the reason is rubbish that's for the viewer to judge - I often formed opinions on the housemates based on how they nominated and how they reacted to being nominated as I thought it actually told us quite a bit about their character. Indeed it still does in the competitive versions of the format too.

Omg yes this annoys me so much. It reminds me of teachers in school, I understand he is supposed to be an authority figure but nominations are really not that deep. There are genuinely people who don't like confrontation, or they may be intimidated by the person or even so they just might not think the issue is that important enough to bring up. Big Brother don't you SEE and HEAR everything? Why are you asking them if they have? If Big Brother wanted housemates who could nominate to his standard then either choose people who can or coach them better before hand rather than scaring them with fines.

1:01:10 a fun little Easter egg for Survivor fans as Michael leaves the house doing Johnny Fairplay's signature hand movement from Survivor. Gretel went on to question if Michael wanted to be like him who was the time was the most "hated" survivor player ever. I like to see that he was a reality TV fan, it's always good to see super fans of RTV on these shows and also make reference to other shows.

The truth and lies eviction special was so drawn out and boring. Big whoop there was a lie detector test that could have just been edited into the Daily show. Michael was pretty much dead this whole week, reading whirlpool it seems his % to evict was extremely high all week and there was no saving him. I feel bad for him as I don't think he got to really be his true self 100% due to the insider task.

Edit: Also watching his eviction interview and he like always has to have an answer to everything which Gretel is not used to and is trying all within her to be as nice as possible when she just wants him to shut up and listen lmao. Michael was such a smart ass I wish he stayed longer. The house's intelligence plummeted when he left.

^^Yeah the Insider task probably ruined his whole game/experience. And then Gretel was mean to him.
