BBAU Rewatch

I once worked out that the average age of the HMs during Ten's run got progressively lower every season until the final year where it increased slightly (dragged up by the inclusion of Terri and Terence).

Personally I'd rather watch a range of 20 and 30-somethings plus a few in their 40s. The problem is it gets a bit harder to cast 30s/40s/+ due to work commitments, family, etc.
And willingness to be on the show in the first place. When I was in my early 20's I would have jumped at the opportunity to be on the show if it was possible but as I got older I started to question whether I really wanted to be exposed like that.

You’re talking apples and oranges… Please refer back to my original statement.
Apologies - I thought you had misunderstood me and were suggesting that others were bringing it up.
Yeah I get where you're coming from now.

A quick glance at the episode lists and theres lots of randomly thrown in specials for no reason. Unforgettable wasn't needed but it's a fun one to rewatch, the revenge room stuff I've already spoken about, theres the truth and lies eviction? why? The housemates on trial live show, again why? This is where it seems BB gets extremely gimmicky and even more focus on the housemates being one dimensional and focused on drama.

'Truth, Lies, Eviction' was a 'much anticipated Australian first' was where they brought out the 'Lie Risk Detector' which was apparently 90% accurate in 'analysing voice waves' to try and skerrit out those who were 'Flying under the radar' and help the public see 'the real housemates'. It wasn't the first time they'd gone this angle in that season either, one of the nominations a few weeks earlier was exclusively nominating for 'under the radar' too IIRC.

This whole thing was trotted out in a package housemate by housemate on the eviction show with the bar turning traffic light colours onscreen while the housemates were interrogated by BB.

'Housemates On Trial' was a mid week show a couple weeks after that, same deal, only this time Gretel's saying 'we asked you to send us in questions for the housemates' and the technology was called 'Layered Voice Analysis' which not only apparently has the power to analyse the voice responses, but also the 'brain activity reflected in someones voice' so you will get a rough assessment of the 'emotional response' to these questions. (and even MORE colourful descriptors filling up the screen!)

In addition to the whirlpool threads, maybe you'd find listening to some of the old hilarious podcasts by vid and vibes I reuploaded over in the other thread from 2006, 07, and 08 interesting/entertaining as you go through this rewatch, I'm pretty sure they go in depth at the bonkers bizzarity of some of these 'specials' LOL.

I'm probably the opposite. Would have been way too shy in my 20s but wouldn't give a fuck now. What's stopping me now is knowing it isn't a fair game anymore or even pretending to be so I wouldn't sacrifice three months of my life knowing producers had probably decided I'm a disposable extra rather than someone they want to push through to the final.

Some of the Ten casts could have benefited from a few people in their 30s but I will give Seven credit for casting the net wider, and they've done so in a way that the show still feels young at heart (if you ignore all the other problems).

Honestly being someone who’s always fantasised about being a housemate. Age wouldn’t be an issue I would go in now at 20 and I’d probably still feel the same way when I’m much older or any age really.

Up to when Carlo goes, watching Belinda’s Confession was… whewwww unsettling to say the least. I can understand that there might’ve been legal implications to air the entire thing on their daily shows. It’s honestly quite sad to watch Belinda become so ostracised from the group to the point where she literally says “I might have to cling onto you” to Reggie. The pacing of this series has been so riveting. Seriously such a strong cast, even the ones who are more in the background.

I truly don’t know how they let Carlo get away with urinating in the garden and then bathing his dick, balls and arsehole in the KITCHEN SINK?!? Naur it was foul, I’m glad Big Brother finally pulled him up on that.

oh yes thank you for reminding me! that was my plan all along but forgot, I will definitely give those a try.

24:20 Anna births the iconic phrase "Game on Moles"

I forgot how much of a storyline Anna vs mother and daughter was. I really have no clue why my memory on this season is so faded, I don't think I disliked it. Maybe it's because it ends so awkwardly everything before hand has exited my brain. But the main storyline for week 2 is Karen being unhappy with Anna coming back and both sides complaining about the other bitching. The girls hated each other this season more than I've watched. Krystal seemed very mature for a 19 year old, the men were all kinda boring to me and Katie still is my favourite like she was last time I watched.

I really do love reading your comments @Zcsund1234. It lets me relive the show in a way. You have such dedication watching the entire series. I am very impressed with your progress and enjoy your detailed comments.

David coming out was very comforting to me at that time. It was really needed at that point to have positive representative and I remember the last couple of seasons before had a drought of gay male housemates. I was slowly coming out to friends in that period so it was very comforting to have a role model like David there and it was very educational in the Adults Only episodes too because I am sure as hell wasn't going to get any information whatsoever on gay sex and gay issues at the Sex Ed classes in high school.

I enjoy writing them :) I have so much to say that I didn't get to 15 years ago so it's fun to pretend like I can.

I wish BB was like this when was in high school coming out. I was in high school when BB had returned on NINE and came out when I was 14. I never had someone to educate me on gay sex and to this day probably don't know as much as I should.

Just get more practical experience ;)

I think making the first eviction of the season a double was a bit much. Whoever used to make the voting graphs was that confused with the new system that they didn't even have percentages ready for the graph?

at 19:30 Gretel goes to read the envelope and there's nothing written on it lol and she gets pissed off. I forgot that happened so I laughed at how unexpected it was.

I always felt Tilly was hard done by. It was just a fun kiss with a gay guy. What the hell was the big deal anyway? I was all for older housemates back then but looking back the personalities and views of Karen and Terri (BB08) weren’t good. Terrence (BB08) was alright. I thought he was very brave showering naked on national TV but everyone just gave him shit for it which I thought was unjustified. 🙄 It was just “slut shaming” for Tilly and “body shaming” for Terrence back then.

Bahahaha. Gretel is the best 😍

I need to pay more attention to how clever Gretel's scripts are in the Adults Only/Unut show

Krystal: (talking about her breast implants) you can either invest in a car that depreciates or a set of tits that gets appreciated.

Gretel: Who knew a Breast implant would result in an economics lesson, but I guess thats inflation for you.

Watching this is really cringe. Why is it controversial to kiss a gay guy? Does Karen not know how to differentiate kissing a straight man to a gay man? Or are they unintentionally dismissing David as gay because he is "straight acting"? I kiss my female friends all the time and if this was to be done on BB these days it would be nothing more than a laugh.
