This was addressed in the first episode. He said he was born with another name but everyone calls him Bill for whatever reason.
...Ali says... "I have a gut feeling blah blah blah!"... no she doesn't... she already knows what's going on... they always do just so that they can rehearse their looks of shock prior to the actual final take I reckon... cheers.
