He's funny.
It is odd.
He is right wing and often a wanker, but somehow he remains inoffensive, weird.
Likeable oddball, who doesn't seem too convinced by his own opinions at times

In his usual radio and TV gigs he is paid to be an asshole, he can't be like that all the time in real life, or around camp, so we're probably seeing the 'real' Steve. Although he has probably been told to stir things up a bit. (sorry I am just watching now)
