7, wow!

So today @kxk asked me if I chose #8 in the Survivor Sweepstake because it's a lucky Chinese/Asian number. And the truth is yes. But that got me thinking about whether western culture has lucky/unlucky numbers.

So, yes, 7 is supposed to be lucky and 13 is unlucky, although I'm not entirely sure why.

Having given this some thought I'd like to add some of my own contributions:
  • 2 must be unlucky, because everyone knows a "number 2" is shit :)
  • 6 must be lucky because it sounds a bit like sex, which referred to as getting lucky
Any others?

4 will make you sore not soar ............ 4 is a very unlucky number - I have been living at 22 = 2 plus 2 - (Double Shit) Has Been a Bad Place :(

Naw how exciting, wow 7! Happy birthday to your little Leo :)

FYI - 25 kids ranging from 5 to 9yrs at a bowling party is *not* a good idea. Well, all the kids had fun, but my back is still sore from helping cart the balls & move the bowling stand for the kiddies.

For us, our lucky numbers are more about birthdays, or special dates. There are lots of family with a bday on the 23rd, so it's a number we pick for keno :D

When I used to play keno at the pokies I always picked 1, 10, 11 and 69. The amount of times those four numbers came up was astounding. I had a boyfriend who loved gambling and I got dragged along, but spent far less than he did. I now only play casino games on facebook. Safer fun but I wouldn't mind if the $339+M in my account was real money, lol.

I've never won anything (on lotto or powerball) when I've chosen my own numbers, only random. So I don't really believe in lucky numbers, maybe it works for some people though.

We have been playing the same numbers in powerball for over 10 years. Most we've won is $90!! I cry when I think about how much money we'd have if I'd put that $$ into an account each week and not touched it for all these years. Still, mr C's motto is you've got to be in it to win it, plus he feels the week we stop, will be the week our numbers come out :p

$90 is good!! :p Most I've won is $28, but it's mostly about $14. Yes, best not to think about how much money we've spent on it over the years, you've gotta have hope.

Something I saw on TV (was it on Gruen? maybe) and they discussed when you buy a lottery ticket you're buying hope. When there's that little bit of excitement - and all the dreams that come with it - that's what it's all about. Well, at least until you get all bitter about having wasted all that money over the years... :D

I've not bought Lotto tickets for years but I always just got a quick pick when I did, so I confess I don't really believe in lucky numbers.. more curious about those who do though.

21 is only "lucky" for me and my partner. He used to play afl, and he was always 21, and 21 has been my favourite number forever. But aside from an initial "omg it is my favourite number too... " bonding moment, the number has brought us no real luck.

I don't personally believe in luck and numbers, I guess if I win your sweepstake I will need to reconsider my view!

69, a number that makes both parties happy!

The only time I waste my money of lotto/gambling is the big events. It paid off last Melbourne Cup so fingers crossed for the next one!

On a related note I just don't get pokies at all. What's the allure? It's boring as bat shit to play them.

I'd be afraid to start regular lotto participation for the same thought process as Mr C, I'd have to play for life in case my numbers ever came up! Sometimes I think the fun of fantasising about spending my winnings is worth the small amount I pay to enter, but I've never won a cent anyway!

As for lucky numbers, well none have officially brought me any type of luck that I'm aware of. My mother and I were both born on the 6th so I tend to gravitate towards it, but for no precise outcome. I generally have quite good luck but it is yet to extend to something like the lottery.

Same! Except I lost on the Melbourne Cup last year...

I too have never understood the allure of the pokies.

That's why if I do play tatts I get a quick pick. No committment.
