I do and don't at the same time - it is great to see some healthy ratings for a good show, but at the same time I don't want to be rewarding the producers and judges for doing what they are doing with the show and playing favorites.

I concur. However that is the nature of Masterchef. Essentially the decision of elimination comes down to the judges. I don't belive for a minute that every elimination is decided based on food, the judges obviously take contestants further if they like them even if it means losing legitimate decent cooks in result. However the format will forever be engaging to viewers as eliminations seems to real in the key audiences and will always bring in high ratings. Soemthing I've noticed in Australian ratings in comparison to let's say American ratings, when it comes to reality shows Australians seem to always watch elimination based episodes. For some reason the elimination episodes of these shows preform better and are always top rating shows regardless of the public's opinion of the result.
