Well if you must know I have turned down two job offers in the past month or so that would likely fall into this category and I have around one week left on my current job at which point I will be unemployed, so not anytime soon. However all of these are clearly by choice and I am looking at other ways to contribute to society, such as raising my child.

I do fully intend to pay off this debt, and technically I have the means to do so now, but as it's an interest free loan I do not feel the same urgency when I have other expenses taking priority. This is literally the only debt I have and a decent chunk of my uni was paid for upfront so it's not really eating away at me - I think you should take the same approach with my debt!

This relates more to 'professional' observations and anecdotes of people who have never been paid even a basic graduate salary at an advanced age. :) You'll get there! Think positively.

Right, but I've consistently chosen to work part time so I don't think this applies to me as much as you think it does.

Hmm not sure where you are going with this...

Considering I have a psychology degree I'm clearly more of a "soft science" person. Does biology count as hard? I actually don't mind that. I did chuckle hearing Dr Karl liken chemistry to stamp collecting, but I fully acknowledge that that plus physics are hard as well as really effing difficult.

Well, in computer science, in order for even the possibility of a computer to understand itself, it would need orders of magnitude of time and logistical inefficiency losses, yet with early childhood learning, we entrust the development of potentially smart children to the limits of people who could not get into the top half of university entrance themselves. Theoretically it would need the very cream to understand the lesser intellectual lights, yet we have a situation of the the mental underclass attempting to understand those smarter than them.

And what have you done about that? It appears nothing, you have retired early and sit in your hobby farm antagonising internet people all day. Put your money and your time where your mouth is!

Honestly, I don't disagree with you in a general sense. I think the ATAR for all education degrees should be higher because teaching is a massive responsibility and an important job and so many members of society seem to overlook this. I'm not sure if this was intended as a slight on me or not, but don't worry, my classroom work is predominately OOSH so I am not exactly working overtime to teach difficult concepts so the future generations are safe for now.

My education degree was a double with psychology, much higher ATAR if you must know. I feel like most teaching degrees should be structured this way actually.

The thing with a teaching degree is that anyone above a certain level of intelligence could get into the course and complete the work but just like nurses, paramedics, police officers etc absolutely not everyone could actually do the job let alone do it well, so just be glad that there are people who can and do.

Not to mention the fact that there are multiple intelligences. Witty only recognises one.

I would prefer my children to have a teacher who loves them and wants to nurture them to become the best they can be in their own chosen field. That's the kind of teacher I strived to be. It doesn't take a gifted musician to encourage and allow a child to experiment with music in the classroom and give opportunities to learn through music. It doesn't take a sports star to give children opportunities and to encourage them in P.D.H.P.E

Unfortunately in Witty's very limited and naive worldview, there is only one kind of intelligence.

Yes, absolutely. There are so many different types of intelligence and all kids are different anyway in what will work for them. Of course no one wants someone "stupid" teaching their kids, it makes no sense, but I would imagine what is optimal is a teacher who makes a child enjoy school and learning and that doesn't really come from uni anyway. I mean, Witty has demonstrated he is intelligent, and yet he has not once inspired me to learn or feel encouraged to do so in anyway, I realise it's not his job to do so but he must think he is the best man for the job as the self-appointed smartest person on the forum.
