I'm sure all schools are a bit different, but my Mr was in Kindergarten last year. The kindy kids started school later than the rest of the school. In those few days, they each had an hour long "interview/assessment" that in my understanding covered a range of things. Then the parent & teacher had a one-on-one. Some things he did were - having a short book read to him, then questions asked to see if he could recall parts of the story. Things like different coloured beads on a string, asking him to put a blue than yellow bead on etc. Some easyish puzzles. I can't really remember (parents weren't allowed in). With the parent/teacher talk after, it was really good. She explained what they asked, and the responses he gave. It wasn't to "grade" the kids as such, but more to find out what level each child was at, so they could tailer the work for them :)

ETA - I missed the best bit - OMG!!! Your little boy is growing up starting big school!! Such an exciting & emotional time :D
Thanks for that. Sounds more like fun for the kids, which I'm happy about. I thought it was an actual assessment of some sort and all I thought was my child will hate school before it even began. It sounds a bit like his interview with the principal. She read him a book and he counted things in there and recalled parts of the story. She asked him to write his name, which he did and also wrote the word bum and laughed and laughed and laughed- lucky she had a sense of humour lol.

I'm def emotional about him starting, he on the other hand cannot wait. I'll remind him of this moment when he gets to high school.

She asked if Sweetgeek left because of me, Sweetgeek said she didn't.

Get over it buddy, I already dealt with that issue with SG.

Your scarring the bottom of the barrel again. Is this death throes?[DOUBLEPOST=1453102543][/DOUBLEPOST]@Sweetgeek you spent your holidays in my neck of the woods!

I would agree that Ettalong isn't exactly the most exciting spot to base yourself though, too far down the peninsula.

We do have some of the most spectacular beaches though. Glad the kids enjoyed it.
I did! Terrigal was not in the best state though :( the beach was surfaced with seaweed the day I went. We spent most of the time away from ettalong tbh. Next time I will get your recommendations for beaches there. Going to the coast will be around the same time I get to any of the beaches in Sydney really. My favourite beach was I think shelly beach, even the sand glistened! We did the Somersby waterfalls, that was my favourite. It was so pretty and spectacular. Can you believe I have had two girl getaways at somersby gardens estate and never knew there was a waterfall there? Not that us girls would have been in any state for exploring those times lol

Terrigal is one of the last beaches I choose to go to (the same as most locals), Wamberal around the bend is even better.
Shelley Beach is lovely.

The Somerset waterfalls is a great spot for photos. Ken Duncan is a local and has some great shots there. A friend of mine once bumped into him there.

I drove through Terrigal on Saturday and it did look pretty yuck. I'm surprised they don't do more beach cleaning in peak tourist times.

I stayed at a beach house in terrigal a few years ago and holy crap it was so good. Mostly just having a beach to myself that was literally my backyard. But I guess I was a tourist.

Bleachy you and your central coast agenda haha, please keep talking about it so I remember to just buy a house there already!

God's own country!

Haha.

In sad news, Carl's Jr failed to open in time. They are now saying Feb 2nd.

Terrigal is the most local spot I can think of when I think of central coast, I have stayed at the crowne plaza there a few times now though so that contributed. my husbands family used to have an apartment in the coast so he was keen to show me Avoca this time around, unfortunately the weather was less than sunny.

I did a panoramic of the waterfalls but it just doesn't do it justice. I did get a good one of me slipping on the rocks lol

There is a restaurant we go to every time when there, it's in Gosford, a seafood place, ot is truly amazing. This is the first time we skipped it though. I forgot the name but I know exactly where it is in my head. You'll have to recommend places to eat there the next time I go there. I always get stuck with the tourist ones I think

Overlooking Gosford waterfront? Upper deck on Masons?

Yeah I prefer Avoca over Terrigal.

I've already had this discussion with the hubby. He wants to buy a place mad an investment and said when we're old and grey he would like to retire there. He had named a few places I never heard of, but I believe the shores were more boat friendly than swimming friendly. I insist on beach views lol

Well you are ahead of me as I can't afford to buy in Sydney. A slightly daunting move, I'd probably end up keeping it as an investment for a while anyway. The beaches are a huge part of the appeal, so yes views and proximity to beaches are a must - in my dreams anyway, probs not in reality.

Oh this is a long term dream of his, I would rather just move there now. Bleachy will have to prepare himself for the both of us if that happens ;) lol
