Ha ha ha. I don't believe you.
It's actually the truth! It was Toronto and the place looked so awful I took a photo outside. I'll find the photo and you'll agree that you wouldn't want to eat there. I also walked Degrassi Street of TV fame, and that area is hardcore dangerous.

Here is an internet photo...it looked even worse and dirtier to me.

I think there is a hooters on the gold coast.

I was fairly familiar with Toronto years ago now. Is that the Queen street west, west of jorge street area?
I vaguely remember walking aimlessly browsing at book shops till Queen street kind of gave way to other entertainment options other than bookshops. Im sure its changed plenty now. You familiar with Toronto now WB?

No :( I was only testing mobile phones for Bell and Telus, in Mississuaga and wherever was furthest from there and spent most of my time on the massive 16 lane freeways driving from one phone carrier and back. I remember leaving Aus where a gunman standoff had been negotiated for 24 hours...within minutes of landing in Toronto, police had sniped their gunman in the first hour. They mean business over there. My main memory of central Toronto is the infernal one way street network. That, and the homeless people have serious sleeping bags for -40c.

OK, your description matched! I understand hardcore dangerous after being sent to work in one of US's the most violent cities. I'd take myself to the city market on the weekends, and colleagues would say "you went there alone? are you mad?"

I found a dream second job situation in the US where I got paid to overnight a guy with cerebral palsy and I got paid and free board. He played wheelchair soccer in Berkeley and all the bus drivers were nice black guys. I asked a couple of them if rumours about certain areas of Berkeley being serious no-go zones for a naive white guy and they all said quite seriously, don't do it.

On the other side though, Thug Life Tupak Shakur once lived in a housing commission near Sausalito. That area is so non-ghetto it's embarrassing. There is seriously zero hardship there. It's San Francisco bayfront with views of yachts.

I didn't know that. I've heard Oakland from memory?, but not spent an extended amount of time in SF.
