Masterchef Australia 2015

Wasn't aware of this. Interestingly, his brother was a judge on the now defunct Masterchef Indonesia. Given the family's interests it makes it hard to fathom they would have a particular objection to him being a chef.

Seems a bit like the Georgia, Jessica, Sara and Ashleigh show right now. Jarrod only seems to appear when a line up is required.

Treat your viewers like mugs, and they'll switch off. Show them a bit of respect, and – if you're lucky – they'll come back.

That's the lesson in the Lazarus-like resurgence of MasterChef, which drew 1.35 million viewers nationally on Sunday night.

Barely a year-and-a-half ago, the once-mighty reality show seemed stuck in a downward spiral. Its season five finale audience was less than half the size of the previous year's – and barely a quarter of 2010's.

Back to basics: MasterChef judges Gary Mehigan, Matt Preston and George Calombaris have enjoyed a ratings bump this season.

It's a different story now.

MasterChef has beaten Seven's House Rules and Nine's Reno Rumble almost every night this year in the five major cities. (House Rules won for the first time last night.) Its audience is up by almost a third compared to the same point in 2014 – and that season was a dramatic improvement on the year before.

....

The contestant's meals should not even be tasted if they make a flagrant mistake. Tonight Jacqui fried and baked her noisette while still in plastic wrap. That is mildy toxic. No one should ever buy a book by a chef so stupid as to be frying food inside plastic wrap.

I will get excited by Masterchef in about 4 weeks when the flock has been thinned. The bottom few are really bad.

...amen to that my friend!... I'm glad that someone else was thinking like me... lol!... cheers.
I can't pay full attention to the series until Jamie is gone. He is my 'you can't be serious' yardstick. I think contestants over the years have improved the standard of their signature dishes, making the first round impressive, but their pressure and invention tests and basic following of instructions has been quite poor.

That marin would have been absolutely delicious. Marco Pierre Shite for imposing his own bias on a judgment. Don't put an ingredient on the table during Marco week if his lordship doesn't approve.

I thought the same, Witty. Marking a dish down because of personal bias is unprofessional.
Personally I hate peas, but if served I would discreetly push them aside, it wouldn't spoil my enjoyment of the other parts of the meal.

It beggars belief, to me, that a dish with undercooked prawns got higher marks from some judges than Marco gave the marron due to the presence of salmon caviar. The undercooked prawn is the equivalent of forgetting the lyrics in Idol. I really don't think a dish can be split by element for scoring, overlooking a clanger.

One funny part is the judges pretending they don't know which dish was whose. Such a pantomime, as they would know in a split second by the knifework and technique.

For me it'll be when Rose goes, I'll think now we're getting serious.

I only want Rose to stay because I dislike her so much. I need someone at the end I want out so then I still have someone that I will be happy to leave. Strange logic but I think rose should stay despite my dislike of her

Can I just say what a selfish prick John is. He just did what he thought was best and changed the whole dish and oh this whole team in jeprody. I felt so sorry for Georgia watching her cry, poor thing. It wasn't her fault the dish was hard. I hope blue losses and John goes. I just don't want Georgia to go. I cannot wait to see John leave the kitchen.
