Bloody should have :-/. But with Sydney market, as it was, we bought a TOTAL do up. EVERYTHING needed done. We've done 4 bedrooms, knocked out multiple walls, replaced every skirting board and architrave, relocated a kitchen and installed a new one... Jesus. And my husband who works 65 hour weeks has done everything except pool, plastering and wall removals. Oh and electrical. It's been a very busy year since we bought (I paint and load skips, and haul rocks in between work, school runs, after school activities and watching Big Brother/posting on here, haha)...

Oh wow! Well I think you and your husband should deffs pat yourselves on the back for doing a lot of the work yourselves. As much as I kind of like the idea of buying a shitty house and fixing it all up to suit my specific needs/tastes, I don't think I would ever lift a finger, aside from possibly painting... if I felt like it on the day, aha.

Not including your current pool frustrations, has it been a somewhat satisfying experience? Or just complete and total hell?

Feel my pain. Am Kiwi so not equipped and I have a half finished pool, filled with murky water and the concrete guys couldn't work today, as it was too hot and the concrete would have "gone off" too fast. It's still 34 degrees and it's teasing me. This was after work and school run :-(View attachment 45879
Hey, I'm guessing that you live in Ryde? Hahaha

It's been rewarding NOW but oh so challenging! 6 weeks without a kitchen initially... Floors sanded (THE DUST, THE DUSSSSTTT!), Tradesmen here what seems like every second day for the first 3 months (so I need to be up, dressed, kids sorted for breakfast etc) before 7am... Now it's pool people for the past 6 weeks, so up at 6am, baking provided, esky filled with ice (so purchase that every day) and coke zero and water before they get there... It will be worth it in the end but very much like child birth. I think I'm at the stage where I push, haha, so not long to go, but much more pain ahead.

Then we just have to build the deck, outside verandah, render the house, level the front section, relocate our entrance and renovate 3 bathrooms? It's a 2 year plan, as finances allow..

Very impressive @Cornflake Girl. Every time I look at places to buy I cry because it's Sydney is so expensive, partly because I just couldn't fathom having to do some serious renovations myself. So well done on tackling it yourself!
We were lucky we did 2 complete renovations in NZ that we bought, did, and sold, so were freehold when we moved here (I'm 40, so old) so had a decent deposit. Our mortgage is still horrific though, NZ standards!

Oh my god, I feel exhausted just reading that! There is no way I could handle anything even remotely close. I get frustrated enough when I need to change a lightbulb! Hats off to you and your family, for sure!

We've been told that! BUT I'm a very nice calm person only in the manner of a caged bear. Poke me enough and it'd not be good, I'd be a 46 page thread within the first week here, as I can't abide fuckwits... And The Block seemed full of them. Plus have strong Kiwi accent, so would quickly wear sick of the "say FUSH AND CHUPS", "BRO", etc v.quickly... ;)

Good evening defectives.

I am at the cross roads.

Do I join my partner in the lounge and read my book while he watches cricket, or let you idiots entertain me.

Dance monkeys! DANCE!
Well... My husband is away till 8.30pm. What's entertainment? Should I cause a fight in a housemate thread? Post my favourite links? Unless you're very literal, as I can't dance (until vodka - then I'm AWESOME - I know this as everyone stops and stares with open mouths!)..
