Missed why Jake so in need of money..?

Lawson mentioned that Jake "felt guilty" for spending $80 at the club. JFC, some people don't even have the $80 to begin with, to eat.

This dudes lies and exaggerations are starting to pile up. Finding it hard to feel sorry for a dude shacked up in Bondi, living the student life, with a "celebrity" friend who probably gets loads of stuff free. Poor Jake, so hard done by. Unless there is more to the story, he is trolling them all.

I think everyone is being very rude! How do you no what his life is like your not him! How can you think his tears are fake or that he is acting poor! You can't judge someone you don't even know!

Of course we are not him and so no we do not know what his life is exactly like but he put himself out there to be looked at at assessed by the public by his choices of being on the show. as for his finances yep don't know them but if he has $80 to go spend at a club he is not as down as his luck as he may be leading them to believe. ($80 would pay for a weeks groceries for my house).

As for only being an youtube sensation, well they do get paid per a certain number of views so if he really is a sensation then he has money coming in through that as well.

I don't see why they expect us to care about Jake's money situation when I can barely remember if they've shown him talk about it before Aisha and Lawson won the 30k.

I just think he's a liar. Whether it's of his own accord or BB's direction, I dunno but we know they're helping him cover up. His story is too inconsistent to be totally true, and all these other hms coming out of the woodwork just make me more suspicious. It's not like they're going to admit he's not a struggling "starving artist" when clearly that is what Jake is promoting himself as. They wouldn't be friends if they were just going to undercut him.

I don't think Jake is "rich" but as I said in another thread, if he can afford to split rent with Tim in Bondi, he is far from "needy." If he is just a glorified guest and Tim is footing the brunt of expenses and lodging, then spending $80 at clubs doesn't endear him to me. And now that we've seen a glimpse of his sob story ('I had to go to my father with nothing.') At the very least it reeks of exaggeration and hyperbole. In the moments where he is speaking about his financial situation or when he was commenting on receiving the 5k, he came across so incredibly forced and inauthentic. And I find him pretty natural, otherwise. So I think he has definitely embellished his backstory. I don't have much of an opinion on that because many hms do. I just think he has done a poor job of it. Tim he most certainly is not.

Well don't forget, Tim recently won $250K, so that may have been a factor.

Endemol should've run a complete background check on Jake.

Quite simple - Jake is lying to the HMs, producers are lying to the viewers.

The first doesn't come across well to the viewers unless he is open in the diary room about lying to the HMs and his reasons why (it would have been a great "secret" a couple of years ago). The second is fraud, plain and simple.

They showed very brief snippets of what seemed to be his "sob story" during the Nominations tonight.

Honestly, his story seemed boring, his tears seemed fake and he'll probably be so pissed that it never made it to air.

He said he called his dad when he finished his degree because he had nothing to his name? Well, a degree isn't exactly nothing, but I guess that was lost in his tears. Besides, nothing to your name - isn't that what we call a "student" these days? Certainly that's the experience I had. 2 minute noodles was a staple of my diet.

I lived off $110 a week, of which $60 was spent on petrol to get to and from uni, but I never told anyone how "heavy" and "low" that point was in my life...until now, I guess. (*fingers crossed this snippet of my sob story makes it to air*)

I just have a hard time believing crocodile tears and someone who has obviously been coached by last year's winner as the best way to manipulate your storyline to win over the audience. I just don't buy his character, and I think it's really to do with the Tim connection, because I didn't and still don't believe Tim is the dumbed-down, childish BIG BRUVA!! character he portrays himself to be on the show.

I honestly don't get the big honking deal. Is it so unbelievable that a 25-year-old who doesn't have a cushy job or a rich family could really use $5,000? And so what if he lives in Bondi? I live in Bondi, and so I can assure you it's not all rich people. Of course there are cheaper places to live, but we don't know exactly what his situation is. Besides which they had to give the money to someone, and for all we know there really isn't anyone they'd be inclined to give it to who does actually need it more. I don't mean to sound ranty; I just don't get some of the assumptions being made in slamming the kid.

I think the main issue here is that he's roomies with a Big Brother winner.

Why is this even relevant though, it doesn't mean he's going to win BB, I can barely even see it being an advantage. Just because he's omitted part of his story to housemates, like countless others have before in previous seasons about parts of their lives they don't wish to discuss, hardly makes for an outrageous story. I find Skye's 'boyfriend' on the outside more dramatic than this. Honestly don't get what the big deal is.

He stabbed himself in the foot for having any association with Tim but living with the guy? and then the fact it was going to be covered up had we not discovered it. Sorry but he's starting off on the wrong fake leg to begin with even worse than Sam

And the obvious effort that BB has been gone to to HIDE this from 1) the audience, 2) the housemates themselves.
It just reeks of shadiness and deceit. eg. Jake's interactions with Tim's brief appearance in the house weren't event shown by BB!

Also, Jake and Lisa seem to have known each other before the show. And a lot of current HMs have links to past HMs.

So much for the BB concept being about complete strangers... What a joke.

As for whether Jake could use the money, sure, ANYONE could use 5k. That's not the issue. It's someone who is crying poor about a situation that the housemates don't even know to be true (I mean, they don't even know he is real life HMs with Tim.
Hasn't EVERYONE been in his situation of having nothing to their name? Why is his story so different?

The fact he has lied about his connection to Tim (or at least withheld that information) just works against his credibility on the show. Where do the lies end? What is true?

Tim did not tell it straight either...He said he did not know Jake could rap?????? Estelle knows he is on you tube and Tim doesn't.....right just post you tube vids of him.

Sorry, I just don't quite see how he's to blame for something the show clearly decided should be covered up, nor why he has less credibility than other housemates because of it, when we don't know their full stories either. Not liking him for him is one thing, but to me some of the blame involved seems a little misdirected.

There is a difference between omission and fabrication. And there's a difference between notifying your partner that you're going on a reality show and will be "single" for the duration and making a maudlin ostentatious show of what anyone watching would think are quite poor financial circumstances. And that thought process was validated because Jake's financial situation was the sole reason shown for Lawson and Aysia selecting him. I doubt many viewers would be too fussed if wasn't for that fact. But it is a fact that this lie is influencing other hms decision making and that's certainly worth discussion.

Do you seriously see no advantage in the winner of BB 2013, Jake's buddy and roommate, entering the house after watching the show and having a wealth of outsider information and public opinion? The situation is entirely unethical. And although we didn't see Tim and Jake engaged in conversation and we don't know what secrets were shared specifically, I think we'd all be foolish to think Tim didn't aid Jake in whatever ways he could manage. Furthermore, what we did see was a lot of propping on Tim's part. "Love triangle" this "love triangle" that. He couldn't have been anymore adamant in carving out Jake a storyline.

There is something I instinctively don't trust about Jake. I can't put my finger on it, it's just there. The strongest I have felt it was when he was standing watching the hm's line up behind him at the eviction. There was a self satisfied smugness about his demeanor. Generally, he seems perfectly pleasant from what we've seen but I can't shake the feeling about him. Of course living with Tim, we'd all have to be pretty naive to think that they haven't devised a game plan down to the minute between them before he went in but even with that knowledge, I just can't like the guy.
