Big Brother 2014: Pest controllers enter house over 'rat' issue
Pest controllers entered the Big Brother house last week, it’s been revealed.
But before anyone jokes about them removing any of the housemates, they were there to tackle giant rants.
We told previously that a huge rat infestation was being monitored by Hertsmere Borough Council, near the show’s house and studios in Elstree & Borehamwood, North London.
Producers feared last month that that the animals could cause problems by gnawing through wires in dark the cameras runs and could even eventually get into the house itself.
An insider claimed: “They’re growing in size and the number every day. Some of them are the size of cats.”
And last week the rats finally made it into the house, forcing the housemates to be locked away as pest controllers went in.
Evicted housemate Matthew Davies revealed: “Poor Danielle was asleep but she woke in the night and as her bed faces the window, she happened to look out and saw one [a rat] and screamed. Everyone panicked.
“Big Brother locked us in the bedroom and we couldn’t get out – they even turned our lights off. They got someone in and the rat was evicted quite quickly.
“In the outside world, if I had seen a rat anywhere near me I would have got on a plane.”
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, Matthew joked: “I’d rather live with rats than Helen.
“In fact, when Danielle saw the rat, Helen tried to go outside.
“She probably needed a friend. She doesn’t have any in the house.”
