I grew up in the same town as Mikkayla did. I wouldn't call it "racist" but it is quite rare that you come across someone of Asian-decent. As a result, and I'm not sure if it's due to lack of exposure, or just plain ignorance, but when a lot of locals come across someone that is physically Asian they do seem to get a large kick out of throwing those stereotypes around. Coincidentally when I was growing up I had a friend that had been adopted by Caucasian parents from Korea (same as Mikkayla), and I'd heard every single one of those stereotypes in that video thrown at her. I think that's why I got a kick out of it. It's not like she was promoting the stereotypes, but more poking fun at the ignorant idiots that believe them and feel the need to throw them around.

I can guarantee that those stereotypes she used wouldn't be how Mikkayla sees Asians but more how she knows a lot of others see them.

This is my issue though. She came out of bb and would have heard some of the issues some had with her and after having her discussion with tahan about this, she doesn't seem to have taken it into consideration. For me, she shows a lack of character growth. For someone in radio, who has an audience she speaks to, she has no excuse for her lack of understanding. One minute she wants people to embrace themselves the next she is stereotyping

I have done litter mates before... So much work but well worth it! Most dog gurus warn away from having siblings due to the constant battle for 'top dog'... Anyways, we lost one of the pups to Parvovirus (even though both dogs had been fully vaccinated at the same time)... The other dog has thrived and is a darling, cute, adorable (@prufrock ... Couldn't help it!) gal dog! Woof...woof!

To me though this is completely different to what she was doing on the show (and what Tahan didn't like). On the show she was mocking Asians themselves by using the stereotypical accent, the way they talk in certain industries, etc. In this new video she was poking fun of the people who have made up, and continue to throw around these Asian stereotypes. She's telling people not to use stereotypes. Yes, I find that very hypercritical given she did it herself in the house (although I have a theory for that), but I think what she's done now is completely different. I think Tahan knows that as well because she's continued to support Mikk today (after the video was released) and if she really does feel as strongly about it as she said she did in the house I don't think she'd keep supporting her if she thought it was an issue.

I agree. It may be a clumsy attempt, but the message is a good one.

I always thought what she was did in the house is the same as what she did with the song; she's not making fun of Asians, she's making fun of stereotypes and the people who indulge them, it just didn't come across very clearly. You can't blame Tahan for reacting the way she did but I doubt Mikkayla has something against Asians. She must have heard these things her whole life and this is how she deals with it. I thought the song was hilarious.

just thought after her tweeting things like this when she was recently going on about now having selfiesteem, and then All about how hard life is for a fasian (fake-asian) song .

She still is putting stereotypes out there, regardless of the message intended. I did defend mikkayla when the issues arose in the house, but after the video I don't think she gets it. I may have disliked her in the house but the one time I did support her was with the whole hating on herself because of her Asian features. And nothing to do with tahan, but personally I don't think it was funny at all. But that's my opinion.
