Newtown? (My niece went there - she did dance).

Two of my kids went (last one is still there - year 12) to a creative arts high school. Gotta say, for a school that is focused on creativity, there is very little individualism allowed. My son does buck the system with his uniform and beard, and is constantly being spoken to about it by the teachers - but no one has ever made a complaint to me (although they do threaten to), but one teacher did give him a razor a couple of years ago.

He insists on wearing grey trackies with Julius Marlow dress shoes, and either a light blue or purple Lowes jumper.

Nah, I went to school in Newcastle. Although it was pretty relaxed when I was there I've heard that recently it's become quite strict and "anti-individualsist" like your son's school sounds. Apparently the changes coincided with a new principal coming on board. Now apparently you risk automatic suspension if you're not dressed head to toe in the appropriate uniform at all times unless actually in the dance/music/drama studios doing work.

I went to 7 public schools, we moved a lot. None had uniforms. I lived by strict family values as in, dresses of modest length, no haircuts, no makeup, no dancing, gospel music only, etc. Which would have been fine if they'd home schooled me. I suspect my time in public school was a lot like what Ben endured. Hell on earth.

If those schools had had uniform requirements I would either have 'fit in' or more likely I would have been home schooled. Either way, would have been a vast improvement for me.

Oh I love seeing little Tully in her Wenona uniform! So many memories flooding back. That's a gorgeous pic.

I went to a private school and they were so strict with everything, at least they made it super easy to rebel - just wear the wrong t-shirt to sport, or leave school grounds without your blazer. I finished up at public school and it was awesome, I pretty much wore whatever I wanted provided there were a few pieces of the uniform, even just the sports uniform. Everyone looked pretty sloppy though, I have to say.
Wenona and Queenwood have always had the best uniforms :)

all i can say about school is that i said 'i was away that day we learnt that' that i vaguely remember being there at all. i hated the whole idea of having to conform to the uniform that i found some way of trying to make it 'cooler' #identityrebel

There's barely a girl alive who didn't try to make her uniform cooler :)

The mayor of Sochi says no gays live in his city, so there goes any hope of the Olympics having decent catering.

Meh. Cultural differences... Nearly all the BB contestants went to private schools so their uniform codes would have been strict. But even in public schools they exist, especially pre high school.

I went to public school and never wore uniform at least in primary school. There wasn't even really a uniform to wear apart from a top that had the schools logo on it. Hardly anyone wore it.

In high school I wore uniform though. Apart from free dress days when you could bring $1 to wear whatever.

JOY! Thought I was in Melb for an event for @FutureOfficial Festival in Sydney but alas, I am free as a bird. Bring on @Pharrell!
