Ratings Thread 2013

NOMINATIONS + LATE NIGHT FEAST - TUESDAY, 17TH SEPTEMBER 2013

NOMINATIONS:

942k - #8 in total people.

#1 in all demos (25-54, 18-49 and 16-39).

Late Night Feast wasn't in the top 20 nor the top 5 demos.

Great ratings so far for this week! Some of the best of the season. Hopefully this rise continues into next week and it doesn't just drop off again.

Brilliant news!

That's again a awesome result.

Agreed.

It really is. Strange for this to be happening mid-season. This is usually when numbers drop off. They're doing something right this year - I'm still interested :)

Well this is much more like it! Number one for the night in all key demos is exactly what Nine want to see. It certainly is unusual for the show to be actually gaining momentum mid season. I think they have a good cast, I guess it raises the question, why that horrible drop off early on? Perhaps the halfway house concept prevented people from really getting in to the interaction of the whole group? I don't know, just a lot happier with where things sit now and hope the momentum continues.

Why have the ratings lifted so dramatically all of a sudden? It is great news but it seems to have come from no where?

Where are all the doomsayers now?

I still can't say BB will definitely be back in 2014. Stranger things have happened in TV land... But these ratings are certainly far from a failure for channel 9. It has been pretty solid in the demos the whole season

Yeah I agree. What are your thoughts on the sudden positive change in regards to the ratings going up?

Big brother has continued to stay solid in demos.

It also gains more interaction over social media and twitter than its rival the x factor.

And if rating hold like monday and tuesday Bbau may not be dead just yet. BB11 hopefuly.

Yeah I agree. What are your thoughts on the sudden positive change in regards to the ratings going up?

It's from the fake eviction twist.

Yeah that is the logical reason but it was far to big a jump to put it all down to the fake evictee twist surely?

I think it may be possibly a combination of many things. Some of which MAY be:

* The Drully Factor
Watching the unfolding story between Drew and Tully is captivating television. Whether you hate it, are merely fascinated or are loving it. It has created a talking point nationally. I have had conversation with people who aren't normally Big Brother viewers asking me what's going on with them. I'm sure some have tuned in, or perhaps tuned BACK in hearing that this was going on. As good as a twisted Home & Away plot line (which by the way, rates over a million sometimes). Tahlia's ( tullystahlia) social media posts have helped up this profile.

* The 6 Nominee / Vote To Save Factor
I really think that having 6 nominees has been super effective in getting rid of the pot plants. So where as in previous seasons it slumps around this time because all the big interesting characters have been evicted, this year we are left with all the controversial characters. So the people left (mostly) are either loved or loathed. Of course this is also the main purpose of vote to save as opposed to vote to evict.

* The Diverse Cast Factor
Some people have vehemently defended this years cast as much as people have vehemently lambasted Alex and team for their choices. An upwards turn mid-season means people are catching on to the interesting characters available to watch on the show.

* The Stable Timetable Factor
For me there were too many weird schedule decisions made early on. Swapping with Hamish and Andy etc. It seems to have settled now. We are creatures of habit, for the NON die hard fans, a show has to be reliably easy to find in order to be watched. Non die hards don't want to be flicking through EPGs to find where the show has been put each night. Also it seemed to start heaps late each night, that doesn't seem to be as bad now.

* The Tim Factor
I hear a lot of people talking about Tim and his game play, strategy, pranks and of course putting himself up for noms gave him legendary HM status. He will be remembered in the history as Sara-Marie is.

* The Editing Factor
Early on, they were not exactly doing a FANTASTICAL job of helping the viewers actually get to know the HMs. While I still think more could be done in this area I think they have noticeably shifted in the right direction.

* The Less Competition Factor
Some of its competition has either settled or gone away. Gruen Nation, Hamster decides etc are over as is the national election which was given large scale media attention as normal (this is the first time BB has been on during a national election. Hamish and Andy is finished (competition in demos, not overall as same channel and different time). Offspring finished (again was competition in demos). Masterchef final weeks became a stronger competition than what it was early on. It is finished now. Etc etc. If only X Factor would GTFO muahahah.

May be more I can't think of. All being said I could be wrong, but the signs are certainly good. Lets just hope it continues to build and not drift away again.

A well thought out post! I agree about the Drully and Tim factor and I also think there is a Ben factor. The 3 core characters this year are Ben, Tim and Tully and those 3 are the most talked about housemates this season so they have not let the producers down.

Yes sorry. I forgot The Ben Factor.
Ben is either endearing or frustrating. You are right, he, Tim and Tully were probably (almost definitely) the 3 core characters. Don't be surprised if they are the final 3.

No need to apologise. I appreciate you taking the time to post that well thought out post to enlighten me about the current ratings situation :) Yeah it would not surprise me to be honest.
