with Australia holding the record for skin cancers and melanomas why does BB encourage the housemates sitting/ laying around in the sun all day not a healthy image to portray to the young people watching the show :(

Hear hear, same happened last year. Very wrong imo.

I know, I hate seeing it. I mean, I get it's soo boring and it is either sit around doing nothing outside or do the same inside, but jeez... there is some serious sun damage on the go here. I obviously don't wish cancer but I kind of like the idea of models like Tahan and Jade ageing badly. Although looking at her mum, I don't feel like Tahan has much to worry about.

It's hard to gauge just how much sun they're getting from a daily show that shows hardly anything. There's nothing wrong with getting a bit of sun. It's just a question of how much and none of us know for certain.

i fry like bacon just walking to the letter box. I wish i could just get "sun kissed" instead of "sun punched in the face".

You do realise these people are adults right? they make choices and decisions, big brother provides a lot of shaded areas for those who dont choose to sun bake and still be close enough to have conversations with their fellow housemates, I am 100% sure he provides sunscreen in the first aid box for everyone to use if they choose to do so, also most of them grew up in a sun conscious society, and most have careers using their looks as the money maker, I am sure they are ALL well aware of the effects the sun may have and take appropriate precautions as ANY other adult in the world does when they make the decision to spend time in the sun, I mean seriously, why don't we cover them in bubble wrap for 3 months, have personal care attendants come in every morning to shower them, you know incase one might slip on the wet tiles in the bathroom... smh

Thank you!! They have options and I'm sure they have suntan lotion as well. The fact they choose to sit in the sun is their business and we have no way of knowing exactly how long they spend there. It might just be one hour a day but if good conversations happen then that's what we see. BB probably always shows a certain degree of those clips to make sure the horny home viewers get their visual taste of flesh each day as well.

Agree ... obviously in the right doses blah blah but ultimately yes the sun provides a lot of good stuff .... and it makes me happy!

I don't think there is anywhere left in Australia where this is true anymore - our coldest State,Tassie you get weird ozone hole radiation burns in December.
I have olive skin and don't burn easily, or even tan easily, as a kid I could play in the sun all day in Victoria with just some protection on my face for a bit.
Never burnt. As a teen, same thing lay around trying to get a tan - was almost impossible in Melbourne, sun was rarely strong enough to change my colour.

Queensland sun is stronger and they need to be very careful. Must be bloody intense these days, the sun strength and burning capacity has changed dramatically here.

People from other countries don't get that it's not just higher temps here it's much stronger sun.
I am impressed by anyone NOT cooking themselves.

I completely agree that people from other countries often don't realise what's going on no matter how much we try to warn them. We have all seen a lobster or two and then heard an English or Irish accent (as example). However ... if you protect yourself well and don't stay out too long then getting some sun on the body is nice. It doesn't have to be about getting a tan so much as just some time spent absorbing the good from the sun. I can lather up on 45+ and spend an hour out in the sun and not get burnt and not give two hoots about a tan and feel fantastic after.
