I had that conundrum last year, I have decided that I'm not buying any new furniture cause it is all over priced badly made crap and it dosnt matter how much you spend.
Anyways dining table, the best thing you can get is a 100 year old cedar thing that has been through 6 generations.
If hubby takes forever check out that option. The best thing about it is that it appreciates so your furniture becomes an asset.

I want to use second hand timber which hubs tells me is reclaimed timber and it's sooooo dear and it'd be cheaper to get new timber from the hardware store. But whatever. I'd rather pay $800 for timber and have #1 make me one than go buy one for either $500 and have it fall apart or pay $1500 and have it fall apart.
