Why don't they make Melbourne cup day a public holiday?

It is a public holiday here in Melbs. But I still have to work! Can I say 'not a happy camper' here?
 
My computer and internet had a meltdown, then so did I, its fixed now, and I have had a "pam" so its ALL good
 
No; but I get extra time off over Christmas, which is cool at the time. But it doesn't make up for leaving a sleeping house on a public holiday. Especially as I predict that I'll be leaving with a hangover in the morning!

Evening ladies & gents. I have texted #1 to say I am home from work, will see if he remembered to charge his battery or I may have to bother adopted son again (who thinks our BB obsession a little odd btw).
Is too hot here. Lots of ice in the vodka tonight!
