I just think most tattoos are a bad idea and identify to me people with poor reasoning skills. I also too often find heavily tattooed people are often very boring and use their body art as a way to try and be interesting without a personality. Anyone with a sleeve or neck tattoo clearly falls under this.

I too don't like tattoo's in general, aside from tamoko and even then it has to be relevant to the individual, it depicts your genealogy and is a tribute to your ancestors. It's also an expectation and something your ancestors have done for many, many generations.

In general though, yes, it's an attempt at creating self identity and trying to be unique. Much like calling your daughter Kymbalei instead of Kimberley.

So basically what every human being does for their entire life via grooming, clothing choice, career, possessions, music taste, sports, and the endless list other ways people choose to shape and display their unique identities.

You can change many of those things easily, committing to something like that is as odd as giving your child a disfigured name.
 
I am a fan of tattoos - especially ones that mean something to the wearer. After watching Michael display his tats I was saddened by how poor quality they are! Being from California, I can tell you there are hundreds if not thousands of very skilled tattoo artists and the one he got here to remind him to brush is down right bad. The lines and coloring were awful. He should get a tat to remind him to use a quality artist nect time!
When he told the story of the misspelled tat, I was reminded of a time when I was getting a tattoo. The girl on the table next to me was getting a guy's name on her calf, and above it were eight other guys' names with lines through them. I was like WTF?!
 
Here's a little conspiracy theory for you people that like to ponder.

What if KFC lobbied to have a KFC fanatic (Michael obviously) in the house and make sure their "company rep/spruiker" stays in for a long time to spread the message of how delicious KFC is? I dunno but i like a good conspiracy theory :)

EDIT: Now that i think of it Josh was Nova's rep too who is yet another affiliate of BB. Is there someone in the house who is in cahoots with Holden? Sarah perhaps who was a car sales person?
